Mac Contacts error with Google account

I'm running 10.12.6 Sierra on my Late 2015 iMac Retina 5K 27-inch.

I have a personal Google account as well as a Google Apps for Business account syncing Mail, Contacts and Calendars to my iMac.

My iMac automatically restarted after running a security update for Sierra. After that, I noticed a small, grey triangle with an exclamation point in it next to my work account on the sidebar in Contacts. When I click it, it displays this error message.

I've done some research but am coming up empty on how to solve this issue, and I can't access my contacts from that account via the Contacts app. I have to go through the web browser, which works, but not the way that I'm used to. I much prefer using the native Mac app's.

Can anyone shed some light on how to fix this?

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried deleting the account from System Preferences/Internet Accounts and adding it back?

try the Safe Mode.

Safe Mode - About

Safe Mode Startup – El Capitan. also Sierra

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

OK, I removed Kaspersky and SIMBL and rebooted, but still got the same error in Contacts on my Google App's account. I was about to throw my hands up and kick it back to this thread for further advice, but I decided to go ahead and try removing the account and not minding if it removes it from my Macbook, too. After adding it back in... My issue with Contacts is resolved!!!

Now, though, I'm having issues with Mail... I'm hoping it's just due to my mailbox being rebuilt and that things will return to normal soon, but lots of emails that are in my inbox aren't showing up there in Mac Mail. And searches for emails from specific people are turning up empty. This is what I was afraid of regarding removing the account in the first place... I'll give it some time, though, and keep my fingers crossed!

You are welcome. I would uninstall Kapersky. Its tends to interfere with the computer's operation while providing minimal to no benefit unless you work with Windows files. Most long time posters recommend not using antivirus software or cleaning software such as CleanMyMac.

Kapersky Uninstall

SIMBL is a system hack. Try removing it.

Eric, thanks for your willingness to help!

This is my work computer, and I've been very busy at work (great time to have a failure in one of the apps I use most!), so restarting is a pain as I'm in the middle of several things. But I finally had a chance to try Safe Mode yesterday and the error shows up there just the same.

I ran the Etrecheck report just now:

The hard shutdown is a whole other problem... Every week, it seems usually on Thursdays, Finder stops working, causing other apps to crash and require a Force Quit (Excel and Preview are the ones I notice most frequently as they're almost always open while I'm working). Then I can't even restart or shut down gracefully - I've tried letting it sit overnight just to come in the next morning with it still on displaying only a black screen and requiring a hard shutdown. That happened again yesterday, which gave me the opportunity to reboot in safe mode. Any insight on that issue would be much appreciated, but I should probably start a new thread for that topic.

Oh, and Yes, I did try toggling the account off and on, in the Internet Account pane of System Preferences and in Contacts/Preferences/Accounts. If I try to remove it entirely, I get this message:

The Google account “blahblah@blah.com” is shared using iCloud Keychain.

I believe it's saying that if I remove the account from this machine it will also remove it from my Macbook, which I'd rather not do as that machine is not giving me problems. Not sure what I should do there...
