Switching an individual/student Apple Music subscription to become part of family plan, where already a member of family sharing

I changed my Apple Music subscription from individual to family plan and want my daughter, who is otherwise already part of family sharing, to switch her student subscription to the family plan. It is unclear from Apple Support documents what she must do. Does she 1) cancel her student subscription, 2) switch her subscription to family plan, or 3) do nothing and it happens automatically at the end of her billing cycle? Thanks.

Greetings Gary,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities! I understand you're curious on the steps your daughter needs to take to change her student Apple Music subscription to join your existing Apple Music Family subscription.

The following support article provides helpful information for managing an Apple Music subscription: Manage your Apple Music subscription on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, PC, or Apple TV

Specifically, the following section will provide helpful information on the steps for your daughter to join the existing Apple Music Family subscription:

Join an existing Family

If you're already part of a Family Sharing group that has an Apple Music Family subscription, you don't need to do anything to join.

If you have an Apple Music Individual subscription and want to join an existing Family that you're not already a part of, follow these steps:

  1. Ask the organizer of the Family to invite you to join their family group.
  2. Accept the invitation to join the group.
  3. After you accept the invitation, open the Apple Music app and check to make sure that you're a part of the group: Tap For You, then the profile icon User uploaded file or your photo. Look for Manage Family Membership under "Find More Artists and Curators."

When you join a Family subscription, your Individual subscription will cancel at the end of the next billing cycle. If you want to restart your Individual subscription later, you can change back.

Cheers!
