Unable to turn on HOTSPOT iPhone 6 S+

Hotspot


I have an iPhone 6s+ thru Sprint. I have Hotspot service on my plan. Verified with Sprint. I cannot turn on the hotspot feature.

IOS: 11.4 (15F79)

MODEM FIRMWARE: 4.6.00


Problem:

  1. I go into Settings --> Cellular and see Personal Hotspot with the spinning icon to the right like it's trying to connect.
  2. After a minute or so the Personal Hotspot words change to a hyperlink starting Turn on Personal hotspot.
  3. I click that and get a popup saying to call Sprint or go to their website to sign up.
  4. I call Sprint and they verify my hotspot service is active.
  5. They can't get it working and send me to the link below. I do what you see below and it still won't work. I can't activate the hotspot.


What I've done:Followed instructions from https://support.apple.com/en-us/ht203302

  1. Updated carrier - ##873283#
  2. Reset Network Settings
  3. Restarted phone

iPhone 6s Plus, iOS 9.3.3, Problem began with 9.3.3 install

After 6 hours of phone calls and chats with Sprint employees (each holding a 6th grade education at best) I finally got to the right person by accident!! This man knew customer service. First, he asked me about my problem and he actually shut up and heard me out without interruption! It was a miracle. Next, he stated back to me what I just said and he was right on! Another miracle! I explained that I'm a 25 year IT veteran and pleaded that he not put me through troubleshooting 101 again as I'd done all the steps at least 5 times already. He agreed and didn't make me do the basic stuff. I wanted to burst into tears of joy. (Not really, but thought that'd be funny). Finally, he was able to look at what he referred to as his 'Master Database'. He saw that 'the codes' didn't match what was on my account. He updated the codes with the correct ones for both phones on my account. Now the hotspot service works.

It's very flaky and seems to require different things easy time. Sometime only USB tethering works, other times only Bluetooth works. I'm using them in a Win 10 Home PC and a MacBook Pro. Do you know if it can use it as a hotspot with an iPad Air 2? I can't seem to get that to work. At any rate, I still despise Sprint and all other carriers but whaddya gonna do, right? Thanks again!
