Laggy backspace button

Hello,

I've been experiencing some problems with my backspace key when I'm deleting text on my Early 2015 MacBook Air 13''. Every time I want to delete text and I hold the backspace key, the key gets stuck after a few characters, it lags and doesn't continue to delete text. Deleting text by pressing the key multiple times takes a long time and isn't efficient. I've explored every possible setting in the keyboard preferences but I can't find anything.

I experience this no matter where I am deleting text - Microsoft Word, Notes, Finder, Safari etc., so it can't be an app failure, it has something to do with the computer/MacOS, but I can't figure out what.
