Can't access ports from VPN (Mac OS High Sierra)
This is a very odd problem so please bare with me.
I am running MacOS High Sierra v10.13.5 from my MacBook Pro 2010. I connect to my office servers using VPN SSL (FortiClient VPN).
Here's what's going on:
- Successfully Connect to the office via VPN SSL
- When I attempt to follow a path (smb://________) it tells give me an error saying that the the certificate's path is not valid.
- I attempted to configure the vpn by going to the
- I've uninstalled and re-installed the VPN client and that did not fix the problem.
- Since the issue happens when
- (A) my VPN server is connected;
- (B) the Remote server is not the issue;
I configured it by
- Choosing Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Network.
- Clicked the Add button
at the bottom of the list, clicked the Interface pop-up menu and chose VPN, then clicked the VPN Type pop-up menu and choose the VPN type. Entered name for the service, then clicked Create. - Entered the server address, account name, and I was not given any other authentication settings such as Shared secret.
- I'm stuck her, the office IT person, does not know what a Shared secret is and neither do I. I contacted Mac support they told me to contact FortiClient. But, I've not had any luck nor from Apple chat nor my client's IT department.
Help, how do I get a shared secret?

This might be some sort of port blocking/forwarding issue but I don't know how to diagnose that. I've turned off the Mac Firewall but that had no impact.
Hopefully someone can help me diagnose this problem.
