Brand new iMac slow boot up

Hi everyone.

Bought my son a brand new iMac today (iMac (21.5-inch, 2017, 2,3 GHz Intel Core i5, running High Sierra 10.13.5).

There is nothing wrong. The bottleneck in current 2.5” iMacs with a HD is the HD! They are only very slow 5400rpm drives, that is the bottleneck. You can either return it and order one with a SSD or you can get an external SSD and connect either via Thunderbolt (best option) or via USB 3 which is still good but not as fast as Thunderbolt.
