email size limit

Is the size limit on an outgoing email of 28.3 MB a new limitation? An email I "sent" over a week ago via Apple's Mail and iCloud server, and which was in my Sent folder as I spoke today to the intended recipient, disappeared from said folder when I tried to resend it. Very disturbing. I received no warning or explanation. Only when I re-wrote the email and tried to send it again did message window arise for Connection Doctor (no connection problem) which said in small print that the email exceeded the size limit. And here I thought Apple had instituted a nifty workaround by enabling large attachments to be replaced by a download link. Or is that only for photos? I have plenty of iCloud capacity. High Sierra, 2017 15" MacBook Pro.

In the Account preferences in Mail, does it have the checkbox selected to send large attachments with MailDrop?

Thank you, Barney. I should have mentioned explicitly in my original post that in Mail's Preferences the checkbox is selected to send large attachments via MailDrop.

It gets me crazy too. I tried again and again. No luck. It was working so fine 10.13.5. C'mon! I was using so well both my iCloud account and other account. But it only works on iCloud with Safari...it seems like tick doesn't really work.

Okay after several tries, it works fine now. It seems like they can send to Gmail (for example) up to 30MB.

1. Sign out all email accounts, including iCloud account.

2. Sign in again. Select 'end large attachments via MailDrop'.

3. At this point, if you have iOS devices, you can try to send more than 30MB. I use the file from File app on iOS 11.4.1. It means I tried to upload to iCloud drive first(video file) and attach it then hit send. It's kind of force trying with MailDrop through iCloud. Because iOS device shows pop-up for using MailDrop every single time.

4. Reinstall Mac with 10.13.6 combo updates.

In my case, it works just fine as normal now both iCloud and other account as well.
