Snapchat Videos Don't Import into iMovie
If you take a video via Snapchat and then upload it to your Mac through Photos, iMovie fails spectacularly in that it looks like the video can be added to the project but it cannot, despite being able to process, render and play the video in the My Media section.
Has anyone been able to workaround this? This is a follow up to this same question that did not have a resolution.
I personally have found a workaround but it is incredibly difficult to achieve. It's as follows:
- Go to the video in question
- Go to the Photos application
- Go to Preferences -> Show in Finder -> Right Click on Library -> Show Package Contents
- Make sure you can see hidden files (Cmd+Shift+.)
- In the Masters folder you can find the approximate date of your video and it will be under one of a number of subfolders on that date.
- Find the file in question (it will have a .filtered- prefix on it)
- Copy to your desktop, change the name.
- Re-import into Photos.
- Now you can actually use that video in iMovie
