Music is reading from external drive in iTunes

I transferred my iTunes music from an external hard drive to a new laptop. the music will only play if the external hard drive is connected to the computer. The songs are reading the location from the external drive and when I go to the preferences in iTunes the location is showing the c: drive on the computer. How can I get my Songs in itunes to read from the computer and not the external. Also lost most of my art work a lot was manually down loaded. Most of my music is copied from a CDs.

See Move your iTunes library to a new computer for a way to move the library from one computer to another keeping all of the metadata, artwork, etc. It isn't quite clear where you might have gone wrong, but the changing media folder location in preferences only tells iTunes where to put new content.
