Airport Error: No DNS Servers

Hello,

My old ISP, Oceanic TWC, was recently bought out by Spectrum. With the change, came a new Cable modem. Ever since installing the new modem about three weeks ago, I've had constant problems. I

We have four devices: a 2009 iMac desktop, a 2017 MacBook Air, a 2014 iPhone, and a 2017 iPad. I was able to connect one (sometimes two or three) devices at a time to the internet, but not all four simultaneously. After numerous reboots of the Cable Modem, the Airport Express Router (2014), and all four devices in every combination I could think of, I decided to re-build my wireless network by pushing the hidden button on the back of the Airport with a bent paperclip and using the Airport Utility app to "create a new network". Success! (mostly)

The good news: all four devices are now connected to the Airport base station and are connecting to the Internet. They appear to be behaving normally. The bad news: I still keep getting an error message within the Airport Utility App: "No DNS Servers. This Airport base station doesn't have any DNS server addresses and might have trouble connecting to the Internet." Also the the little green light on the Airport Express Base Station is no longer green, it's a slow-flashing amber.

Any suggestions?

Before you start trying to change things, I would recommend a complete power cycle....if you have not already done this. To do that......

Power off every device on your network.......modem, AirPort Express, computers, printer, iPhone, etc.....in any order that you want

Wait a minute

Power up the modem and let it run by itself for 2-3 minutes

Then, power up the AirPort Express and let it run for a full minute

Keep starting devices up one at a time about a minute until the entire network is back up

Check the network again

If you are still having problems with No DNS......

Open AirPort Utility, click on the AirPort Express, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears

Click the Internet tab at the top of the window

Type in 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 in the DNS Server fields

Click Update at the lower right of the window and give the AirPort a full minute to restart

Express is a toy router.. really as main router for your network it is not up to the job.

What exactly is the cable modem you have now? make and model please.

You can always use a google public DNS.. eg 8.8.8.8 if you are having trouble.. simply open the internet tab on your airport express.. and type in the DNS value. Tell us if it fixes anything.

There is a good chance the change over to Spectrum also involved a change to IPv6 and that can lead to other issues.. make sure your IPv6 setting in the express is link-local only as well as the computer.. if automatic does not work.
