iTunes 12.8 work w/original Airplay v1 devices?

I'm about to upgrade to iTunes 12.8 on my iMac BUT wonder if my older Airplay v1 devices will still be able to receive streaming audio. I have an older Airport express hooked up to an outdoor stereo, Apple TV 3 for receiving/outputting digital audio on my main entertainment system and an JBL Airplay speaker. I'm concerned that if I upgrade I'll lose streaming ability to all these devices. Thanks for any advice.

Sadly airplay 2.0 is not compatible with all existing devices. I run speakers through my Pioneer VSX-1021 receiver throughout the house and outside. The new iTunes 12.8 is not compatible and will not connect from my MacBook Pro running os Sierra 10.12.6. This has become a big bummer. I called Pioneer and they have no plans to update their firmware for the receiver to support ITunes 12.8. I wish I didn’t update my apple software. Apple should fix this in the next iTunes update. Retaining backwards compatibility is important and this gaff is probably affecting many iTunes users with pretty current audio hardware. My receiver is only 4 years old. I don’t want to have to pay $300 for a new receiver/amp to drive all my speakers.

Still no success with the VSX-1021 with ITunes 12.8 or 12.9. I reinstalled ITunes 12.3 and 12.6. I get a different error when trying to use Airplay with these versions even though I uninstalled all Apple software and rebooted after uninstalling and installing a different version. I now get the error: "An error occurred while connecting to the Airplay device VSX-1021. An unknown error occurred (20)." I can't find much when I search the INET for ITunes error 20.

Amazing how Apple has been silent on this issue/problem. Now using AirParrot2 for connecting from ITunes Win 10/64 to VSX-1021. Not reliable, additional $12.99 cost.

Thanks Apple. Apple has become the status quo and doesn't understand the engineering required to be fully backward compatible. Apple is certainly a technology company, not an engineering company.

Agreed. This is the response to the problem that is posted on the Marantz website where my NA7004 Network Player is from:

Apple iTunes version 12.7.4.76 introduced a communication issue with the authentication chip, which no longer allows you to use the service on selected devices. The issue can be identified by the following message on your Marantz device:

"The AirPlay device "device name" is not compatible with this version of iTunes."

Previous versions are not affected by this. Please note that iTunes continues to work the latest iOS devices at the time of testing (iOS Version 12.0).

Please also note that this is due to Apple no longer supporting the specific hardware authentification chip used in the above products. Therefore, there won't be any firmware solution from our side.

Essentially Marantz are saying it is not their fault and Apple are saying there is nothing wrong ! Really poor.

If Apple want people to use their products then they need to sort out their backward compatibility principles.

I have two Airplay 1 speakers on my network and since updating itunes to 12.8.0.150, one of these speakers is ‘no longer compatible’ with iTunes. My iPhone, running 12.1 is still able to recognise and play through both speakers, individually, as they are not Airplay 2 compatible speakers. I was under the impression that iTunes would still be compatible with older Airplay 1 speakers, but it does not appear to be the case. I have an old iMac, which is not able to run any operating system after El Capitan.
