'Install or remove windows 7 or later version' option greyed out

I have a macOS 10.13.6, and I'm trying to use bootcamp to install Windows 10, and the install or remove windows 7 or later version option is greyed out. Bootcamp Assistant version is 6.1.0.

I made some mistakes the first time trying to install windows 10, and accidentally erased my MacBook Air, and restored it 3 months ago. It was around 2015 when I first got my laptop.

This is what the disk utility looks like:

Can anyone help me on this?

Thanks in advance.

There are three different styles in that specific option.

  • Install W7 or later version
  • Remove W7 or later version
  • Install or Remove W7 or later version

The last entry indicates that BCA cannot determine the current state properly. See the screen shots in Bootcamp User Interface .

Can you run SMC Reset using How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support and test what options you see?

You may want to use the drivers in Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5640 , instead of BC6 .6136 drivers which BCA will provide.

-bash: cd: /Volumes/BOOTCAMP/: No such file or directory

It's called "Untitled" for some reason:

When I enter in the second line separately from the third line, it says:

-bash: ./Windows/INF/setupapi.dev.log: No such file or directory

When I enter in both of them together, it says:

find: ./Windows/INF/setupapi.dev.log: unknown primary or operator

Ok, sorry for being inactive for a while, but I used VM and WinToUSB and installed it successfully. I booted it up just fine, and the internet drivers or something was broken, so I went back to mac, downloaded Windows support software from BootCamp Assistant, and put it on the external drive. Then I ran setup.exe, and it restarted, then the screen went black...

It's only been two days, but I found a discussion that is similar to my problem, except I'm trying to install Windows 10: Macbook Air early 2014, windows, meet black screen with latest Intel graphics driver (hd5000)

The post wasn't complete, and I contacted apple and Microsoft support, and apple directed me to microsoft, and they directed me to intel support. I couldn't contact Intel, but apple said for me to try to get them to make another version of Windows support software compatible for this computer.

Intel apparently is hard to contact...

As a test, create a FAT partition of the size you want Windows to be, connect your USB, boot and hold Alt/Option, and check the available selections. On a 2014 Mac, you have two options, Windows or EFI Boot. EFI Boot is faster. If you choose EFI Boot and get a MBR error, or choose Windows and get a GPT error, it can easily be corrected.

Since you posted an image, I cannot copy/paste the exact command, so you will need to fill in the blanks with the full container UUID.

diskutil apfs resizeContainer 5F2DFF8B-... 80g fat32 BOOTCAMP r

This command reduces the APFS to 80g and uses the freed-up disk space to create a BOOTCAMP partition which is fat32. Please post the terminal session.
