IPhone 6 Plus

Hello, just to verify that I to updated to 11.4.1 and was faced with exactly the same WiFi problem. After trying advisory fixes which didn’t work (e.g. clearing network settings) I tried a re-install of the update via iTunes but to no avail. Finally I have now downgraded back to iOS 11.4. On iTunes Which has now fixed the problem.

Let’s hope bugs will be fixed in the next update.

Has anyone got anywhere with fixing this issue? I have iphone 6s and issues with wifi connectivity on my home wifi (which is Virgin Media). My husband's iphone has same issue at home but not work, no issues with other devices on different ios versions or my PC on the wifi.

So far I have tried 3 support chats with Apple with no results, and have -

- rebooted my router (several times)

- done a diagnostic test with Apple

- switched the phone off and on

- forgotten the network and reconnected (several times)

- done a factory reset of the phone and restored from iCloud

- done a reset of the network settings

- tried turning off bluetooth

- tried turning off find my phone (but it won't let me)

I don't know what else to try! Apple's technique now seems to be to cut me off every time I start a support chat.

I'm not sure this is a good idea. The problem is clearly not just with the Virgin Superhub 2, there are people in North and South America with this problem too, and people in the UK who do not have Virgin. So it is an Apple problem. Moving to the Superhub 3 may solve the problem (probably uses a different chip set), but two Virgin engineers have advised me not to swap from Superhub 2 to Superhub 3 as it is not so good. So it might be best to wait for the Apple fix. Your choice though.

Hi. After talking to a Senior Advisor at Apple today there is another potential temporary workaround which people could try with the Virgin Media SuperHub 2. This workaround involves setting up one of the guest networks on the Virgin Media SH2. On the guest network, turn off security (i.e. WPA), add your device under MAC filtering and then hide the SSID if you wish once the iPhone is connected. I have been using my iPhone 6s with iOS 11.4.1 which had the WI-Fi connection/disconnection issue with the SH2 for a few hours on this guest network and it appears to work. I will test further. This gives us something whilst Apple are investigating the issue and will hopefully provide a fix in a future update. Apple did say that would contact me if they required further diagnostic information from my device/sh2 and that they had already collected some from others. HTH

I have tried everything as you did with my iPhone 6 and it still is messed up at home.

Does not find connections

Sometimes connects with strong signal but very delayed internet

Signal is strong for a few minutes then goes to one bar then drops completely

Very weak short distance, I need to be within 20 feet of the router to get a signal

For my Netgear extender sometimes it says wrong password, which is not the case

All this seems to cause excess battery drain and is using much more data than usual

Is there any word on what or when Apple (the trillion dollar company) will do something about this?

I have just read the threads and the issue seemed to me to be tied to the dual band router so I tried to connect to a Tp link expander unit instead of directly to the router. Guess what it worked as a temporary solution. I tried both iPhone6s and ipads which worked fine.

This can only be a temporary solution but it does work (around £15 for the expander) and overcomes the problems with wifi dropping out until Apple fix it properly

if you have Virgin Media Superhub 2, and have any old wireless router in a cupboard, plug that into one of the four modem mode sockets and have a second wifi network which should work for any iOS 11.4.1 device.

If you don't happen to have one, see if you can borrow one off a friend or member of the family.

I have an old Airport Express running my second home network, this way, and iOS 11.4.1 iPad runs just fine.

My iPhone and second iPad running iOS 11.4, are still running on VM wifi.( but , of course, will also run on my Airport Express network )

I am fortunate in having run a network cable to my first floor, a few years ago , so I have put my Airport Express upstairs; this has given me a better signal in some areas.

In fact, I shall probably keep this device running , even if Virgin Media , or another iSP comes up with a new wonderful modem/router, since the Airport Express consumes less than 3 watts.

Perhaps, soon, Apple will fix this annoying, frustrating nuisance. Next month, I think that iOS 12 will be forthcoming, but I won't be rushing to put that on my iOS 11.4 devices for a while.

The moral of the story is, don't throw away, or sell an old or spare router.

I am hesitant to ask for a Superhub 3 , from Virgin Media, not least because it is one of the most power-hungry routers on the market, and has quite a few VM-user people saying that it is not as good as SH2.

Here's a fix that seems to be working for me so far.

Go into your super hub router settings (advanced settings) and go to the DHCP configuration section.

Change 'lease time' from 1 day to 10 minutes.

This means your connected devices will renew their connection to the router every 10 minutes.

i.e. it saves you having to do that manually every time the wifi stops responding.

I'd recommend changing it back again if apple manage to fix the problem.

This is a general issue with 11.4.1 and Virgin Media Superhub 2. There's plenty about it on the VM Community forum.

Hbhanda posted a temporary solution which does work - I've been using it for a day or so without issues.

I've reproduced it here:

'After talking to a Senior Advisor at Apple...This workaround involves setting up one of the guest networks on the SH2. On the guest network, turn off security (i.e. WPA), add your device under MAC filtering and then hide the SSID if you wish once the iPhone is connected. I have been using my iPhone 6s with iOS 11.4.1 which had the WI-Fi connection/disconnection issue with the SH2 for a few hours on this guest network and it appears to work.'

The problem appears to be with encryption. The solution above is a safe option, as it still protects your network. Not ideal, but will work until the next update.

Hope this helps....

I can try...

1. Login to SH2

2. Click 'Advanced Settings'

3. Under 'Wireless' Click: 5GHz (or 2GHz) First Guest Wireless Network.

4. Tick the boxes to: 'Enable 5GHz First Guest Wireless Network' and 'Enable SSID Broadcast'

5. Set Security Mode to 'Disable'

6. Set Wireless MAC Filtering to 'Deny All Devices unless in Wireless Filter List'

7. Go down to 'Add Device'

Enter a Name for the device e.g. 'gloveluc's iPhone 6s'

Find your MAC IP address on your iPhone (Settings - General - About - Wi-Fi Address)

It will be 6 pairs of numbers/Letters in the form xx : xx : xx : xx : xx : xx

Enter this into the MAC Address

8. Click 'Add Device' - It should then appear in the Wireless Filter List

9. Click 'Apply'

10. Wait for a couple of minutes while the Router reboots (yes really!)

11. Go to 'Settings - Wi-Fi' on your phone

12. Look for the '5GHz First Guest Wireless Network' in the list of available networks and join it.

(if you can't see it, the Router is still rebooting)

On my iPhone, I have also used the 'Forget this Network' for my former wi-fi connection, to prevent it automatically connecting to the 'old' connection (click the 'i' symbol by the side of your old network to access this).
