mac mail not working with Spectrum

I am running high sierra V 10.13.5 on an imac. Since spectrum took over Time Warner Cable I have had intermittent problems sending emails. Now nobody receives my mail even though it shows up in my sent folder. The only thing I can see in settings is the incoming user name has the first letter lower case and the outgoing is upper case. Other than that, I can see nothing...the settings are all correct. Apple support today told me there was an email that said Spectrum no longer supports mac mail, but my ipad works fine. I run a home business, so I have years and years of emails in macmail...Any suggestions?

Balderdash!

You are having success with your iPad (you said?)

OK. I just tested one of my roadrunner accounts from Thunderbird

  • sent to a YahooMail account
  • sent to "self" = same account as sending from
  • sent to another roadrunner account

ALL went to Sent folder with no alerts

ALL FAILED to arrive in TBird

I still cannot find ANY reporting that says Spectrum no longer supports email clients

I searched Spectrum.com for "mail"

It seems to me that they may be giving you the cold shoulder because they have screwed the pooch and do not want to admit it

I will call Spectrum myself in a minute

😉

FWIW,

my email client - Thunderbird - has built-in anti-spam features that filter SOME emails that have LINKs in them by sandboxing "content" elements = throws up a red banner bar above the message pane with a menu for me to take actions "allowing" all or part of the content. If I do NOT take action from the menu, and I choose a link within the message, it throws up an alert dialog! "Do you REALLY wanna do this thing?" [Yes] [No] 😉

My YahooMail account is GOOD about quarantining messages to Junk/Spam/Bulk folder before it ever reaches my INBOX -- right now, it has 10 messages jailed and only three are REALLY Spam - the other senders are ones that "get through" all the time! So that is BAD! (sort of)

I tried changing the server to Imap.charter.net and outgoing to mobile.charter.net

and changed ports to the charter recommended incoming port 993 and out 587

..did not work.. so decided to delete account and reinstall.. simple right..?

now I can't create the new account as Charter does not recognize user name or email.. called charter..same answer..apple problem..

called apple ...charter problem..

This should be an easy config between apps.. I just don't get it..why make us the consumer waste hours of time for something so simple that both sides coders know *** if going on and won't fix.. Switched to gmail.. if I could I would switch from both Apple and Charter products. This is a poor showing of co-operation between large tech to support 3rd party apps and consumers..

I ended up just frustrated with no solution after hours on the phone etc..

I am a realtor and need my apps to work. no excuse for such poor support from both companies. I don't want to know how to fix this simple tech stuff..this does not support my business goals and a waste of precious time.

thanks for letting me vent..

regards,

Michael Z.

Thank you. My email address with TWC/Spectrum has always been username@roadrunner.com. I get my mail from there and from gmail through Mac Mail. I have a home business, so I have years of sorted, old emails that, if I delete the account and start over will be lost. This has been a recurring problem with Spectrum. A while back, after months of frustration, I finally got a rep who admitted it was a server issue and they were replacing servers. It worked for a while but the problem is back. I had am Apple support person tell me yesterday there was a notice saying that Spectrum will not "allow" Mac Mail anymore. She posted a link that froze my ipad. I suspect it is Spectrum, but I bought and downloaded Airmail3 last night...same thing happened. I will be on the phone with Spectrum again today...like I have nothing better to do!!!!
