mac mail not working with Spectrum

I am running high sierra V 10.13.5 on an imac. Since spectrum took over Time Warner Cable I have had intermittent problems sending emails. Now nobody receives my mail even though it shows up in my sent folder. The only thing I can see in settings is the incoming user name has the first letter lower case and the outgoing is upper case. Other than that, I can see nothing...the settings are all correct. Apple support today told me there was an email that said Spectrum no longer supports mac mail, but my ipad works fine. I run a home business, so I have years and years of emails in macmail...Any suggestions?

Balderdash!

You are having success with your iPad (you said?)

OK. I just tested one of my roadrunner accounts from Thunderbird

  • sent to a YahooMail account
  • sent to "self" = same account as sending from
  • sent to another roadrunner account

ALL went to Sent folder with no alerts

ALL FAILED to arrive in TBird

I still cannot find ANY reporting that says Spectrum no longer supports email clients

I searched Spectrum.com for "mail"

It seems to me that they may be giving you the cold shoulder because they have screwed the pooch and do not want to admit it

I will call Spectrum myself in a minute

Of course they blame each other - it is because the folks that you are talking to are basically front-line, low level specialist working from a Knowledge Base of fixes for known problems

My best guess is that Spectrum did something on their end that is blocking your iMac based on it's MacOS version being reported in these email client's UserAgent data

(logic?) - the iMac, ALL email clients are failing = other devices WORK

Call Spectrum back and assertively & politely demand to speak with a supervisor - repeating until you get to the person that actually knows what they did and how to fix it (they MAY have to make some change on their end, which they may be loathe to admit)

Further evidence that there is something funky about that account.

This is gonna require somebody with hands on permissions on the email server & the user database at Spectrum/Roadrunner

Roadrunner is one of the oldest email services there is.

I used t work at a company that had a software app that had a "built-in" email function - automatically sent an email with a link to a file that had been marked up by our customers

Some users had roadrunner email accounts that failed to receive emails sent to them.

It turned out that roadrunner would block the entire range of IP Addresses that an ISP controlled when SPAM was reported from ONE of the IP addresses (a hosting company had one user that spammed out of 100s or more of customers)

We WERE able to get hold of the hands-on administrator at Roadrunner in Atlanta to resolve the problem - difficult the first time, not so much after that. All they had to do was edit the "blacklist".

That was in the 1990s. 😟

Yup.

Tech visit is a "standard operating procedure" just to get the trouble ticket started

Seems costly to me, but it does give them a sense of confidence that you are not lying to them, I guess. 😉

I really hope that they don't resolve it for YOU and it stays broke for ME!

My tests ultimately arrive

  • Gmail = instantly (makes me think that Spectrum may be farming out email TO Google?)
  • self & other @tx.rr.com accounts = some minutes to hours later

except

Ymail = never ever arrives (which reminds me to check my JUNK folder for these)

editADDED

lookie what I found in YMail JUNK folder

OK.

I may have told this story earlier, but...

At one time, I worked for a software company that had an in app email feature. Some of our customers had - or had correspondents - that had Roadrunner (the actual email service for TWC/Spectrum). RR had a policy of blocking entire range of IP Addresses when they got a report of a spammer.

What you describe makes some sense for a robust anti-spam protocol - but there should be a "whitelist" procedure for Spectrum Business customers if they are now relying upon Cloudmark

That said... DIY?
