imac power keeps cutting out

I have an iMac retina 27" late 2015 that has recently started repeatedly cutting out. Just going blank as though someone has pulled the plug.

I replaced the power cord, thinking that was the problem, but it still keeps shutting down.

I've run an etrecheck and that has revealed no major problems. (Attached here.)

Any ideas?

Other than the photolibraryd process taking up a significant portion of CPU processing at the time of the report (most likely in relation to the Photos app processing either or both the iCloud Photo Stream or performing facial recognition of the existing photos in the Photos Library) there isn't much appearing in the report to pin-point any hardware issues.

Please try the following, in order. Stop at any step where the issue is resolved:

  1. Reset your Mac's SMC.

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

Fans, keyboard backlight, status indicator, battery indicator, display backlight, power button, close/open the lid, sleep or shut down, battery doesn't charge, MagSafe indicator light incorrect status.

Hold down the <shift><control><option> keys, and then, press the power button. Hold all of them for, at least, 10 seconds.

  2. Reset your Mac's NVRAM or PRAM.

How to reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

Resets sound volume, display resolution, startup-disk selection, time zone, & kernel panic information.

  3. Boot up your Mac in Safe Mode.

  4. Run Apple Diagnostics to uncover any hardware issues with your Mac.

  5. Make a Genius Bar appointment at your local Apple Store.

You can only make 1-week ahead appointments either via the web link above or AppleCare phone support. The appointment timeframe is longer if you go in-person to an Apple Store.

I went thru the very same thing with my wife's late 2014 27" iMac. Would shut down frequently. Had it in to the Genius Bar 3 times and they jumped thru hoops to make sure it wasn't software related. Finally on the 3rd visit last Sunday the said they would be replacing the powersupply. Haven't gotten it back as yet.

Since it was in warranty (AppleCare) I called and got bumped up to a senior representative. He had me download and run a Data Capture app and upload the resulting report to Apple for the engineers. It took me 3 days to get a report created as the iMac would shut down before it got created. The only issue with that was they suggested an erase and install of the system. It was done and shut down during the initial setup. That's when the 3rd visit occurred.

There was another post here a week or so ago with the exact same symptoms. The user wasn't under warranty so he replaced the power supply himself and it fixed the problem.

So make sure you have a current backup of the drive. If it's in warranties contact AppleCare and get the process started.
