This discussion may help ios 11.4.1 WiFi issue

From what I’ve read and previously experienced you could try “Forget this Network” under your WiFi Settings then reconnect again, “Resetting Network Settings”, reboot both your iPhone and your Router and last try the other wireless section if dual band.

With respect to the bands, if you usually use 5Ghz then try 2.4Ghz, but also try turning 5Ghz completely off as well, in others words you turn a dual band into a one band unit.

ps. It appears the latest iOS 11.4.1 has introduced this issue for some and will probably require Apple to fix in a future update, so above are just temporary “work around”.

Agree, and for those like yourself I can only imagine how frustrating it can be, but most haven’t had issues, I’m one of them. The two main problems at the moment appear to be excessive battery consumption and your WiFi connection fault, both appearing with either 11.4 or 11.4.1, but my X and iPad Mini 2 have just kept working as normal and I’m not really sure why.

All I can think of is for any updates I do tend to use iTunes and I don’t have 100’s of Apps on the devices, other than that they are used daily for web, messages, mail, music, podcasts and reading, in fact I probably use more than the iMac now.

It’s really a tuff one to nail down not withstanding the fact my devices couldn’t be more different, the latest X and an almost outdated iPad, go figure.

Still, if Apple would give those affected a way out by allowing a downgrade until they get it together I suppose most would be satisfied, maybe if enough complain they might rethink that strategy.

Posted this in another discussion regarding a call from Apple in the last hour and can confirm they appear to be collecting everything they can regarding the issue, even from those that have for some reason managed to avoid it. Discussed devices I use and method of updating (iTunes), also what impact an upgrade and downgrade could/does have with regards to what’s left on the device that might make things work again.

Obviously they are collecting certain information from different sources, what they find when it’s all put together who knows, anyhow they do seem to be getting more proactive. The other point is it was the forum that’s prompted this course of acion so for those that consider Apple doesn’t listen sometimes (and I may be one of them), it looks like they do, so it’s important as much as possible is communicated in discussions to give them the best chance possible to resolve.

So, Gail from Maine, seems your post, my response, and the initial question asking about the 12.4 beta were all removed suddenly....does that mean you work for Apple? If so, it would be much appreciated if we could get some response regarding what Apple is doing to fix this issue, especially since people can no longer roll back to version 11.4. We spend a lot of money on these devices and expect core functionality, such as wireless access, to remain stable between patches, especially minor patches. Perhaps not removing the digital signature on prior releases so quickly should be considered. From now on, I will delay updating as long as possible before I infect my devices with insufficiently tested updates.

I also believe Apple should be considering that option (posted same in another discussion), appreciate it may be a balance with regards to moving people forward especially if the previous iOS has security issues, but as you say, when core functionality goes down they must be prepared to offer up alternative "solutions".

Agree whole heartedly with your post.

Awesome information at that link about the problem, Apple‘s admission that they have an issue with their patch, an indication that a fix may be available with another .x release before 12 rolls out. Thanks also for the steps people can try that you distilled from a reply message.....very useful! I’m going to try the suggested workaround when I get home this evening.

I tried it too, but sadly it did not work for long. All “fixes” are worth trying if they are within reason Chris. As you say it is encouraging to read that Apple are aware of this issue and are working on a cure.

The one I have hung back from is taking my iPhone in for repair, as the problem appears to be with the iOS rather than iPhones or iPads themselves.

I totally agree with you Ryzon with regards to Apple. I love their products but am dismayed, to put it mildly, that they have released an update to iOS which has caused issues for so many people and cannot understand why a fix was not sorted as iOS11.4.2

As you say Apple need to test more thoroughly and yes I wish we could roll back an update that causes problems with a form of system restore to a previous version.

I mentioned the chipset in older routers as I had read that this was the problem. Perhaps they were wrong 😕 I am no expert. All in all let’s hope that Apple get it right with iOS12

Just tried this after having the problem since the last update too. Sadly it's made no difference whatsoever. I get quite excited for about two minutes when things seem to be working then it drops the wi-fi again. Done all of the previous together with taking my phone into the Apple shop where they suggested a full reset a few weeks ago (which I had to pay for). Sadly nothing has worked. It's so frustrating, feel like throwing the darn phone in the nearest bin! All that money and the **** thing is pretty useless.

I tried to answer your request for ideas, but once again the Apple forum-police yanked my post for daring to mention the version 12 beta status, as conveyed by others supposedly involved in the testing. Again, Apple spending more time policing a forum, where people are asking for help and guidance, than actually helping people. Great use of your time and money in “supporting” your customers......thanks, Apple.......for nothing.
