Apple Diagnostics does not function anymore

Hello,

I do not get anymore "Apple Diagnostics" by pressing "D" on keyboard during startup.

Pressing "D" does not do anything, my iMac Pro starts normally, just like pressing no key.

Pressing "option"+"D" is just the same.

By the way, also the same, means no effect pressing "option"+"command"+"P"+"R" calling for NVRAM-Reset on starting the iMac Pro.

Some key codes do work normaly, like "macOS-Recovery" and "Safe-Mode".

I have made an recover-installation, no difference.

Keyboard is okay, every key is working

I have run "Apple Diagnostics" last on 5 th of may this year with macOS 10.13.5.

Now i have updated to 10.13.6. Could it be that this is the point ?

Someone else with the same merror on 10.13.6 ?

Greetings ...

Klaus

If holding down the D key at startup doesn't start Apple Diagnostics:

If you're using a firmware password, turn it off. You can turn it on again after using Apple Diagnostics.

Hold down Option-D at startup to attempt to start Apple Diagnostics over the Internet.

Hello,

i have found a solution :

If i plug a usb cable from keyboard to the iMac Pro ( directly to the iMac Pro, not to my usb-hub ) and start the iMac Pro EVERY startup key combination works, also the "D" key for Diagnostics.

It seems, that the connection keyboard with iMac Pro over Bluetooth lags, so the cable solves the problem.

Cheers ...

no i have not any issues with my iMac Pro. Everything works fine and flawlessly. It is a superbe machine my iMac Pro.

But I am in the habit of testing the hardware from time to time, particuluarly the fans.

Do you think, my problem would be solved with Mojave when it is coming up in September ?

Good to hear klausfromlimburgerhof.

I can not speculate on the macOS 10.14 Mojave, however I would not rule it out for regaining your Diagnostic.

Hello Kappy,

Concerning to Your Troublelshooting-List :

1. + 2. Done without any difference > pressing "D" key does not function.

3. How could i do that ? Key-Code "option+Command+P+R" does not function, same as "D" key. Any other way ?

4. Done without any difference > pressing "D" key does not function.

5. Done without any difference > pressing "D" key does not function.

6. Done without any difference > pressing "D" key does not function.

7. How could i do that ? Key-Code "D" does not function. Any other way ?

8. Done without any difference > pressing "D" key does not function.

9.-11. Skipped

12. Done without any difference > pressing "D" key does not function.

13.-15. I will not do that for the moment

It seems to me, that all the Mac startup key combinations that need a internet connection will not function

( for instance "command+R" is okay, " option+command+R" is not ), the normal key combinations ( for instance "shift" for safe mode ) will do. My internet connection is working and steady, that is not the point, i think it has to do with 10.13.6

Because my iMac Pro is working properly i will not make a complete new setup. Is there any chance that the problem might be solved with the upcoming "Mojave" ?

Greetings ...

Klaus
