How do I stop songs from uploading to the iCloud library

Hi, I'm going mad. I've had issues with songs uploading to the iCloud library.

How do I prevent things being uploaded? It keeps trying to upload MPEG audio files which are Spanish lessons. I've unchecked them, but it still keeps trying to upload them when I update the music library, and now they all show as greyed out 'waiting'. It then holds up the update - which has been going for 24 hours ( I have to keep stopping it.)

Also when I first subscribed 2 years ago to Apple Music, when it uploaded the library it messed up all of my music, pretty much, like everyone else. All my CDs, which I now no longer have. I called Apple Support yesterday and they acted like I was the first person this had ever happened to, and couldn't help.

maybe you can.

I have one album track (Hotel California) from a CD, **** Freezes Over. I have this track on my iMac and can play it. Apple then matched it or whatever it does, and it has uploaded a totally different live version than the one that was on my CD. On my iPad, macbook, wherever, I have two versions of the song, the one Apple Music AAC Audio File, and the original file, which is AAC Audio file. Any idea how I can get this version uploaded into the cloud? Again, it has the dotted cloud icon and 'waiting' next to it, but it never gets uploaded.

Thanks very much.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Josefa,

Please don't go mad! At least not because of your iCloud library. I'm pretty sure you can stop the Spanish lessons from uploading by doing this:

  • Select a file or a batch of files
  • Type Command-I, or from the menu choose Edit > Get Info or Song Info
  • Click on the Options tab
  • Use the pull-down menu to change Media Kind to something other than Music (for instance, to Audiobook)

I'm not sure about the best way to approach your Apple Music problems. I've only got personal experience with iTunes Match. But in case this is helpful, here's a trick I've worked out for the occasional stubborn track that does not want to upload to the cloud: Drag the track to the desktop, or to some folder on your computer outside of iTunes. (This causes it to be duplicated and copied to the new location.) Now delete the track from your iTunes library. (Just select it, hit the Delete key, and if you're given the choice, select "Move to Trash.") Now drag the duplicate track back into the iTunes window, which will cause it to be imported and — if all goes well — uploaded to your iCloud Music Library.

I hope this helps a bit.
