Does Siri respond on both HomePods if they are stereo paired?

Which device responds to ”Hey Siri”

When you say ”Hey Siri” near multiple devices that support ”Hey Siri,” the devices use Bluetooth to quickly communicate with each other and determine which one should respond to the request. The device that responds is the one that heard you best or was recently raised or used.

HomePod responds to most Siri requests, even when other devices that support ”Hey Siri” are nearby. To use Siri on a specific device, raise to wake that device or press the button to use Siri, then make your request.

It would be more intuitive, that when grouped in Stereo, the response should come from the HomePod nearest the voice that calls for Siri.

We have 2 paired units and it seems kinda dumb that the one farthest across the room responds rather than the one 2 feet from me...

No, Siri does not reply in stereo she only responds on the HomePod you have designated when you set up Stereo. In my case that is the one on the left when facing them.
