I’m in DC which has due E-W running streets. The iPhone compass show it 30 degrees off, ESE. I did the privacy setting, calibrate compass on and off, many figure 8s (no one said which direction, so I tried lots of options). So, now the Compass is off 60 degrees, indicating SSE when it’s pointing dus east.
I suppose if i do that 10 more times I will have “calibrated life back where it belongs. Gotta be a more elegant solution!

When my compass app in iPhone SE needs recalibrated (rarely acts up) usually
to turn the iPhone face-down & make a 'figure-8' with phone, the compass re-
sets itself. ~ Similar suggested actions make most other app defects go away.
While this may vary with iOS, the idea has worked across three iOS devices &
different system versions. -- Though I cannot attest the most recent iOS works
in the same manner, as I've chosen to be a slow-adopter given battery issues.
You may have to try power reset; shut off phone from settings menu and restart.

Or remove the Compass app and then re-install it. {IF the Device has many apps
then functionality may suffer.} ~ How much storage capacity remains from total?
Thanks. A new update happened to be due, so either that or the accompanying reboot did it. I KNEW the Capitol Building was due East of the Washington Monument! My iPhone just wasn’t sure. It kept wanting me to lean Left...perhaps it was a feature, not a bug ;-)
