Someone else answering my FaceTime calls?

It was simply a suggestion to check a setting where this may have been set long ago and forgotten.

When you say you changed your number, does that mean you are still using the same phone and still have the same Sprint account - just one with a new number assigned?

Have you tried backing up your iPhone, then erasing it, and then trying the FaceTime call with you only signed into your Apple ID, FaceTime, and Messages? You want to test this with a device that has nothing on it except your sign in. See if the call continues to go to your mother's phone when you don't pick up.

If it doesn't, then it is something in your Settings or data that is causing it to happen. So, you would want to then just finish setting up your device manually. iCloud sync'd data would already be downloaded because you signed in. You would have to go to the iTunes and the App Store application to re-download your past purchases, and manually go into your Settings and set things up again.

When you made a NEW Apple ID did you go to Settings/Messages, log out, then log in with the NEW Apple ID?

She is logged in to your Apple ID for FaceTime (it is a separate Apple ID than the one that is used for iCloud - normally they are the same, but they don't have to be). You need to change the password for your Apple ID. Sign out of FaceTime and iMessage before you do, then sign in to them with the new password. See: Change your Apple ID password - Apple Support

Log into your old iCloud account at iCloud.com from a browser on a computer. Open the Find My iPhone app. If you see any devices signed in with that account, lock them or erase them. Make SURE you are actually signed into iCloud using your NEW iCloud account before you do this.

Could she have added your cell number to her Apple ID?

Have you checked under Settings>Phone>Call Forwarding to make sure that you don't have that set up?

Not in my case, I have an iPhone and a Galaxy but people can FaceTime and iMessage me from both numbers. To set that up I just go to settings and click on my name then on "name, Phone Numbers, Email" and then where it says "Reachable at" I press "Edit" and then add my second number. All it requires is a text verification to the number you're adding. Bottom line, she can add your number to her phone if she has access to your texts.

If you are sharing the same apple I'd with anyone else you will get problems.

Everyone needs there own apple I'd they are not made to share.
