Contact Names Not Showing Up

For a couple of weeks now, I have noticed that when I use iMessage on my MacBook, that only numbers pop-up instead of the contact names. I have seen that my address book isn't updated with the correct contacts, having old ones syncing with gmail, and my iCloud and On My Mac categories showing only 4 contact names including mine. How can i fix this issue so my iMessage on my mac shows the contact names, and my address book is up to date? I have tried logging out of iCloud, setting the right region of where I'm located, attempting to sync them with iTunes, etc.
