I have several video files in different albums on my iPhone X (iOS 11.4) that I would like to move to my camera roll. I can use iOS (an some 3 party file manager apps) to move files to different photo albums and even cloud services - but not the camera roll. Is this a protected directory by Apple?

You must have photo access to some application or cloud service and synchronize it and then accessed on another device.

Th camera roll is a “special” folder. The only way to get things into it are when the camera is used to take new, and thus otherwise unfiled, picture or videos.
