Problem with FCPX template editing

Hello

I'm new to both FCPX and Motion and am having a really hard time at using these two (BTW I often wonder:but why, oh why has Apple not made a single software rather than confusing the user with 2 different approaches...). Maybe you can reproduce the very simple thing I am trying to do: edit the comic book generator (the one with yellow pages) in Motion. From FCPX I open a copy in Motion. There, I simply want to apply a keyer to the yellow sheet... Whatever way I try (even making an independent group with the photo), the keyer kinda doesn't work. I can click on the color sample box, but then no dropper (rectangle in Motion) appears. The tool remains stuck on Adjust... What do I do wrong ?

Thank you.

Pages has been around since 10.0.0 I think. I've never found a practical use for it.

A keyer isn't going to work for that effect because the yellow color is halftoned ("hatched"). You would be better off just using a Bezier mask (to kind of follow the page "curls") and create either a cutout that will show through media in the FCPX storyline, or placing a drop zone beneath the masked area — and you should be able to set it up so that the drop zone animates with the Pages animation without too much trouble. You will probably have to enclose the individual image "segments" (example: BG_01a) in their own individual group so that clones of a drop zone can be placed into the scene and animated with the page images. This is easily done by selecting the layer and typing Command-Shift-G (creates a group containing the selected objects) usually without upsetting the original positionings. Once the group is created, move the animation Behaviors to the new parent group. Once you have that down, you can add background images/clones/drop zones/whatever into the containing group.
