This forum is not fully compatible with iOS Safari

This very Apple’s forum (Apple Support Communities) is not fully compatible with iOS‘s Safari.

It is so hard to use this it, like it was made strictly for desktop using and not for iOS devices as well.

For example:

When you start new discussion and typing text in Comments window, the typing behavior is out of this world!

It so infuriating!

Autocorrection is glitching or not working in a half of the moments. Backspacing is erasing sometimes two spaces instead of one. Backspacing does not erasing words after a few seconds, just continues erasing letter by letter but slowly. New sentence sometimes does not capitalize first letter. Sometimes you can’t place cursor into a wanted place. And so on, and so on.

A bunch of weird behavior of typing!

Or...

Trying to crop profile photo is complete nightmare. It is not cropping, it’s squeezing it!

Why Apple’s own forum is not compatible with Apple‘s own iOS devices? Is this a joke?

Sometimes Apple completely don’t give a heck about things.

It doesn't work "bad" at all. The forum is designed to use an 80 x 80 pixel image for your avatar. Created to exactly that size, your image will fit the circle the avatar is displayed in without distortion.

As far as your other issues (mostly regarding text), I can't duplicate them. I somewhat recently sold an iPad 3. Other than being slow, it worked as expected on these forums. I now have a 6th gen iPad. It also works without a single one of the problems you list.

The iPhone is another animal. My iPhone 6s is simply too small to use on these forums. The way the forums are written to display on an iPhone, it's literally impossible to list the discussions you've been in. Something that's very easy to do from my iPad or Mac. All using Safari, by the way. I don't even try using these forums if all I have at hand is my iPhone.

I do have my iPad mounted in a Logitech case/keyboard. I despise trying to use the virtual keyboard for any type of input.

It depends on the problem - we can't do a thing about hardware problems or manufacturing problems - except send you to Apple. We can suggest solutions for and help with software/install problems - but even in those instances, we can't do anything about something that simply "works as expected" (as deemed by Apple).

This thread is about iOS Safari not being compatible with this site - we aren't Apple employees and we have nothing to do with running this site, so all we can do is suggest workarounds (if there are any that someone has found). My workarounds are: either use a different browser or ignore the glitches as best as I can.

And I don’t want to use other browsers, because that’s not the point.

The point is that their own native device working infuriatingly bad in their own forum.

And you’re telling that this is how things should go along.

This is a user to user forum. We are not apple. We cannot "fix" the software. We can only offer work-a-rounds to problems.

I've long used firefox on my mac, because it works better then safari. It's crazy, but I'd rather have a working web browser then have problems. It's the real world.

So, you were using mounted keyboard instead of virtual to test this on your iPad?

if so, I encourage you to use virtual.

And another question.

Did you type straight ahead without any corrections, which mostly indicates all these problems I describe?

And did you use word prediction feature on virtual keyboard?

Sometimes when you start typing a word and then use word prediction on virtual keyboard to finish the word for you, it just leaves word as you started it and leave a space instead. And when you press backspace to finish the word manually, autocorrection treats this rest of word as a new individual word and corrects it. So the word became a total mess.

And also often when you press backspace to get close to word and then press spacebar it replaces last letter of a word with a space LMAO

Yes, I have seen the work you at tt2 have done. And if it helps the two of you be more comfortable here more power to you. But I'm able to navigate the site just like it is given the amount of time and effort I want to put into it and it really doesn't bother me. And for most people who just want to come here, get an answer and move on your tweaks are positively overkill.

Several years ago while doing an update of the software here ASC had a committee of senior users that worked on the changes and then they ran a test site. And most of the people who worked on the test site thought it was good. They were happy with it. But immediately upon release other senior members weren't pleased with it and attacked it. Committee members tried to explain it. Still some didn't like it. There was trouble in the Lounge. I just adapted and went along my merry way. But people who were coming here for the first time had trouble with the site so changes were made to make it easier for them. And that is what the ASC staff really has to do, make the site easy to use for people who will join here, ask one question, get their answer then go away. That is their primary goal and responsibility. Do your tweaks do that? Or do they make it easier for you to navigate to give answers?

Who knows, since ASC is moving away from Jive and jive's servers maybe they will blow it up and start again. Maybe they will make it look like iTunes. Or like the iOS support app. Whatever. If it gets to the point that it is so onerous that I go on and on in a public area (have you heard of a place called the Water Cooler?) that I constantly moan about it, carp, complain, etc then it is definitely time for me to move on. It isn't my arena. I don't own it. In any form or manner. I can volunteer and use it or move on. All this reminds me of people who post here and complain about holidays that they hate, having to confirm message deletion, etc. and senior members tell them they are wasting their time. And then we have senior members doing the same thing.

You probably didn’t read this whole thread, but other browsers has the same problems.

I did. Some have offered workarounds, but there is nothing else we can do, except you can ignore the glitches which was my other suggestion. FWIW, I am using an iPad without problems except for the virtual keyboard which I do not care for.

No... but I am starting to think about stopping my helping efforts

I want you to do the several things with the settings OFF and REPORT so that we know that you have done that step = THEN = turn them back ON and test

This is to make sure that the "toggle" of the setting/feature has taken place

But if you want to insist on complaining rather than solving your issue, you can do that without me - and likely many others are tiring of it too
