Tiered numbering in pages

The question of generating tiered heading numbering is raised fairly frequently. None of the solutions ever posted seem to work on my version of pages (version 7.1). Simply there is no option that I can find to format a list of headings as

1 XXX

1.1 XXX

1.1.1 XXX

1.2

etc

Can this be done in this version of pages?

Select the paragraphs:

Sidebar > Text > Bullets & Lists: Numbered > check Tiered Numbers

Now when you want the numbers to be next level down, click in front of the text in the List and hit Tab.

To go up a level, hit Shift Tab.

The problem with List Styles in Pages 5/6/7 is that they are not combined with Paragraph Styles as in Pages '09 which is way easier and has far more finessing of the typographical layout.
