Activation lock not accepting Apple ID

I'm getting mixed message when trying to use an old iPad that I haven't used in months. I'm stuck on the activation lock page. On screen, I'm being told to enter the Apple ID I used when I set up the device. I bought the iPad years ago, and my ID has changed. I don't remember the old one, and the current one doesn't work. What am I supposed to do?

iPad 2, iOS 6.0.1
