Polar H10/Apple Watch won't stay connected

Like JustHonda (My Polar H10 will not stay connected to Apple watch during my workouts.), I too have a problem with connectivity between my Apple Watch (series 3) and my new Polar H10 (not using the Polar app-I only have the H10 connected to the Watch). When I first connected it, it worked fine for a couple of weeks. Then it stopped staying connected. When I strap on the Polar H10 I check the watch's Bluetooth and it's not paired. I tap it and it changes to show connected, but the watch still doesn't use the H10 for heart rate monitoring. I can tell because not only are the measurements wildly wrong, but the watch's monitoring lights on the underside are lit during a workout or when the heart rate app is up on the watch (they weren't during the first 2 weeks when the connection was working). My watch is on the latest WatchOS (and has been since well before I got the Polar H10).

My workaround: I had the watch forget the Polar H10, and then I reset the Polar H10 (remove battery, touch contacts 10 sec., wait 30 sec and put battery back in), then repaired it with the Apple Watch. It's working again. I don't know how long this will last, but at least I know a workaround until either Polar or Apple updates their products so they hold a reliable Bluetooth connection.

I have this problem, too. Only difference is that it didn't work in the beginning.

I hoped for iOS 12 and watchOS 5 to bring an improvement, but the behaviour didn't change: When paired in the bluetooth settings it says "connected" but actually does not read anything from the H10. When choosing the workout app on the watch and coming back to the settings it again says "disconnected".

WatchOS 5 on my Apple Watch Series 2 solved this for me. Previously the H10 would disconnect often, so that I kept bluetooth settings on the watch open to monitor and quickly reconnect during strength workouts. Last gym session though, I was surprised to discover the HR10 had auto-connected to the watch and the connection stayed up through the whole training session. The activity app hear rate readings confirm this: no "dropped" beats.
