I was trying to edit an audio clip in iMovie. Now I can 't clear the track from the timeline and as a result cant delete the "project ". Sorry, I dont know all the lingo.
when I click on the track in the timeline the "delete" option is grayed out. when I try to delete "media' from "event" i am told "This item is currently in use in the project."

Assuming you are using iMovie 10, you delete a clip from a project by selecting the clip in the timeline and pressing the delete button on your keyboard. To delete a clip from an event, select the clip and do a File/Delete Media from Event.
You don't need to delete all of the media in a project in order to delete the project itself. To delete a project go the the Projects browser display, where your projects are displayed as icons. Move your cursor over the project and click on the little circle to the right of the project title. A drop down menu will give you the option to delete the project.

Solved. thank you. the key for me was how to select the clip; I did not realize I had to use the top menu prior to pressing the delete key.
