Messages constantly prompting me for a password for Jabber accounts on HighSierra

Hello team,

After migrating from El Capitan to Mac OS High Sierra I noticed very annoying change in Messages app behavior. Actually, I do have two Jabber accounts running on Google. Every time I logon or Macbook Pro wakeup from sleep, I got prompted to enter a password for each my Jabber account. Sometime I do need to enter passwords for each account once, sometimes 3 times for each of them. Finally accounts become online, but after another logon or wakeup from sleep I do need to repeat password enter. 2 weeks since upgrade...

Please help me to make my life happier.

Nope, that doesn't work.

The following worked for me on macOS 10.13.6 (High Sierra):

In order to make this change follow these steps:

  1. Open Keychain Access
  2. Search for com.apple.account.jabber.password
  3. Double click it to open the attributes prompt
  4. In the Where field (fourth one down) you should see com.apple.account.jabber.password
  5. Replace all text in that field with Jabber
  6. Removed trailing @talk.google.com from Account setting entry field
  7. Click Save Changes

Hey mb197321,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. I can you're constantly getting password requests for the Google account you use with Jabber. I can certainly see how much of an inconvenience this can be and you're in the right place for help. Have you had this issue since the latest update? Have you made changes to this Google account recently?

What I'd suggest first is removing the account and re-adding in your Preferences. Check out the article below for more info.
Messages for Mac: Set up other Internet accounts in Messages

Set up Internet accounts

  1. Choose Messages > Preferences, then click Accounts.

  2. Click the Add button User uploaded file, select the type of account you want to add, or select Other Messages Account, then click Continue.

  3. Enter your account information, then click Sign In.

If you selected “Other messages account,” choose an account type from the pop-up menu, enter your account information, then click Sign In.

Jabber: Enter your Jabber account name (for example, euna_k@jabber.org) and password.

If your Jabber service provider gave you specific server information, enter the information.

  4. If asked, select the apps you want to set up to use this account, then click Done.

To retrieve your information or sign up for an AIM or Jabber account, go to the service provider’s website.

Stop using an account

If you don’t want to see messages from an account on your Mac, you can make the account inactive using Messages preferences, or turn off or remove the account using Internet Accounts preferences.

Remove an account from your Mac: Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Internet Accounts, select the account you want to stop using, then click the Remove button User uploaded file.

WARNING: Deleting an account or turning off individual features can remove data stored in your apps. Before the account is deleted or a feature is turned off, you’re asked whether you want to keep a copy of the data.

Let me know if this helps.

Cheers.

Why won't High Sierra save Jabber account passwords to keychain?
