macbook pro 13" 2018 random freeze

I got my 2018 macbook pro 13" three weeks ago. The computer freeze at least twice. It requires hard reboot. Where should I start to look for fault? The system isn't under heavy load nor was it hot.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, 4 TBT3), macOS High Sierra (10.13.6)

I'm having the exact same problem on my 2018 13" Macbook Pro. I've had it just three weeks and it's frozen four times. I restarted the device in Safe Mode two days ago and back in normal mode today and it froze again.

Apps running at the time: Mail, Safari, Chrome, Grammarly, Calendar, Messages, Slack, and Amazon Music.

Got a MBP 2018, 2.7 i7, 16GB ram for 4 weeks now and got exactly the same issue. In the past 2 weeks it froze at least once a day.

This is unacceptable for a machine that has cost me a lot of money. There is no heavy load at all and i just freezes out of nowhere.

I surely hope that this is a software issue and not hardware related. With al the current problems on this thread I expect that there will be a solution soon!

Doesn’t it seem strange to everyone here that with all of us reporting the same problems, we do not hear from anyone at a higher level at Apple.

i think they are totally ignoring us or are struggling to find a solution.... either choice is not good! BTW... I am also having a problem even signing into this list.... it is asking me for two party authentication even when I choose “trust this device”. According the Apple, on the same device, you should only be asked once.

Allow me to chime in and say that I have been personally called by Apple to try to diagnose the problem on my Macbook. It is not true that Apple is doing nothing (nor ignoring) the problem. Unfortunately, I think I couldn't be as helpful as I thought as the problem didn't occur anymore to me after they called me. Not sure whether my machine got scared of going to the doctor 😀!

Anyway, I would encourage Apple Technical Support to reach out to people in the forum reporting more frequent issues as I believe there is much more to investigate 🙂

PS: Not sure if this can help anybody, but running some analysis on my crashlogs I noticed that all the time I have a report from Adobe Creative Cloud. After I disabled it from starting automatically on boot, it seems to have solved my issue. I would be curious to know how many of us are using Creative Cloud (and leaving the process running in background).

PPS: The more you guys write in the forum, the better it is. Try to describe well how the problem happened, what programs you were using and what software you had running in the background when the problem occurred. Being a SWE myself I can relate to the Apple engineering team and say that it is very hard to find the exact cause of these problems as they are hardly reproducible on other systems.

Like most of us described, it’s a “random” occurrence so it’s going to be tough to replicate on demand. I’ve tried to close certain apps etc but it doesn’t seem to have any clear root cause.

Apple needs to hire some testers to find the problem. Failing to do so, they should at the very least replace all the affected MacBook Pro.

I agree that the more we write about whites happening may help the Apple techs that are working on the problem. but I am very disappointed that it is taking so long. i have spent hours on the phone with high level support and so far they have not helped and I still have problems. Now it seems to reboot every time I stop using for a f3ew hours.... doesn't matter whether I specifically put it to sleep or just leave it with cover open or closed. It happens during mail, safari surfing and lightroom. My Adobe CC is usually not running when it happens.

Today my friend sent me an article about MBP2018 freezing. I had hoped that this issue would never happen to me. But alas, it did. My machine is only 3 days old. All I did is sent a video from youtube to dashboard just to test it, because I found it interesting. And soon after that I got my first freeze. I really hope this is only a software issue. It would be really disappointing if it turned out that, my first MacBook that I bought, couldn't be fixed with a software update 😟. Godspeed Apple on your quest to find what causes this issue.

It may be a slim sliver of hope, but about 2 weeks ago, I called Apple support about this issue. It was obvious from the call that the particular agent I talked to did not have any specific technical service bulletins or other references to rely upon in providing assistance for this problem.

Nonetheless, they walked me through doing a dirty re-install of High Sierra ( I did not have to restore data and apps from Time Machine). So far, I have not had any additional freezes. Having said that, though, I never knew (like many of you) what might be the triggering freezes. I have not rigorously stress-tested my machine in an attempt to make it freeze. Hence, I’m not 100% sure the re-install of High Sierra did the trick. At this point, Mojave is on the horizon and we can all hope that this issue is software-based and will be solved.

C’mon Apple...at least put out a statement or something.

Exact same problem, getting a crash every 2-3 days or so on my 3 weeks old MBP 13"/16GB/256/.

Sometimes it's not the freeze, it's something different: upon opening the lid, i get a completely garbled up screen (super pixelated, greenish/grayish hue) where i can only see the mouse moving, nothing else can be observed; the mouse arrow itself is just a huge pixel, about 1 x 1 cm on screen. Shutting down is the only thing that helps.

For the freeze yesterday i managed to copy the error report: it's all about Bridge OS! See below:

{"caused_by":"macos","macos_system_state":"running","bug_type":"210","os_version ":"Bridge OS 2.4.1 (15P6805)","timestamp":"2018-09-20 14:22:40.80 +0000","incident_id":"A38855BC-160F-4170-946B-CC144FA47BDF"}

Bridge OS is the watchOS derivative that runs on the T1/T2 Touch ID/Touch Bar Mac

So I am having the exact same problem... my screen shots are showing the same "Caused by...." i tried to copy it and paste it here but to no avail. The techs at Apple called it a "kernel" problem. I have no idea what that is but they do not seem to know how to fix it! All I know is that the last Apple support IO talked to, who is supposed to be a high level support, told me that there would be an up date soon and that I should wait and try that..... That was 2 weeks ago and so far there has not been an update. Considering this is Apple support, you would think that someone would be monitoring our conversations and offer us a bit of help!
