Fraud
Today, when my 90 yr old, legally blind wife was alone at home, she received a message that her computer was locked with a phone number to call. She ended up at a company called Optimum Infomatics who implied they worked for Apple and would not help unless she purchased an ap called UBlock and 5 years service for $1,000. She was to send a check on Monday. Among the papers she signed was an agreement allowing her bank to pay if she didn't, although she wasn't told that. They said they needed bank info for ID only. They claimed that the agreement could be cancelled within 14 days, but the paperwork says only 7 days. After that they require some definitive proof and whether or not they cancel is up to them. It seems clear this a fraudulent blackmail scheme. I want to make sure that apple is warned of this scam, and that we are assured they can't touch any money of ours.
