How can I put a homemade dvd on iTunes or iMovie for editing?

I can’t figure it out it gives me 2 file folders and says it can’t read them or something like that to be imported. I just want to import my movie which is on external dvd Drive into iMovie and add something to it, or put them in iTunes homevideo. Any help is appreciated

The two folders that you get when you open the DVD are these

Ignore the AUDIO_TS folder. Open the VIDEO-TS folder. You will see something like this:

Option-Drag (copy, not move) the files with the VOB extension to your desktop. Then, as QuickTimeKirk says, use the free download, Handbrake, to convert the files to Mp4/AAC that Handbrake will do by default. Once converted, the files can be imported into iMovie and edited.

The above should be used only to covert home movies or movies that you made yourself, not commercial movies. Ripping commercial DVDs violates copyright laws.
