My Face ID has stopped working. I have reset the Face ID and tried to set it up again. The device does not seem to able to get my face into an acceptable position, it keeps asking me to move the phone higher/lower/closer/further away.

IPhoneX Face ID. It has stopped working and I want to reset and set up again. The phone cannot accept that my face is in the right place. It was very easy when I first did it.

iPad Pro Wi-Fi + Cellular, iOS 11.4, 10.5 inch

Thank you. The problem proved insurmountable. Eventually I found someone at Apple Support who knew what she was doing (she was brilliant).

The final solution was to reset the device back to factory settings.

Whilst this was a pain as it means all personal settings, email settings and passwords, etc are also reset, it did solve the issue. On restarting after the reset the Face ID worked fine, immediately going through the routine to record my face and has since worked fine.

If you already followed all the steps provided in these support guides:

or

Get help with Face ID on your iPhone X - Apple Support


AND If you're sure that nothing (case, screen protector, dirt) interferes with your TrueDepth front camera, and the issue still persists,

have your iPX inspected at your most convenient Apple Store or Authorized Service provider:
