Does Aiport Extreme work with wireless plugs (Eg. Sonoff plugs or similar)?

I bought an AirPort Extreme router so I could connect wireless plugs to create a smart home enviromoment. After much troubleshooting including delegating the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands into seperate wireless networks (as the plugs only work with 2.4Ghz) I still cannot get any of my 5 plugs to connect using the EWeLink App. They will connect to my iPhone X but not to the router or the modem the router is connected to (also 2.4Ghz). Has anyone been able to successfully connect plugs such as Sonoff?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

Your primary issue is clearly NOT the Airport Extreme.. since the wireless plugs don't work with your modem either.

And yes, they should work with the Airport Extreme.. but what model extreme running what firmware.

Also make sure you have wireless setup with short names, no spaces and pure alphanumerics.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names.. they will likely not work. Also password stick to same rules.. pure alphanumeric mixed case and numbers..

If you still have issues try also locking the channel on 2.4ghz to say 9.

Still have issues downgrade firmware a couple of versions.. the latest one is most problematic because of the repair to KRACK weakness.. but not all clients can work with the update.

Using Apps to connect non-apple stuff is sometimes a hassle.. are there other ways?? eg you should try using WPS. It is often much more successful.

After trying a combination of your advice and another source I have found a solution to the problem. Changing the wifi name to a short single word as you suggested and also deleting and reinstalling the app has allowed the connection to be made successfully.

It appears that the wifi plugs themselves are very weak and return signal will not penetrate objects very well. Walls/floors are almost totally out of the question as well.

Thanks for giving feedback as it helps others.

Yeah the little space available for antenna in the wall plugs means they might Rx ok but the Tx is so weak you really need a wifi router in the same room.
