Latency delay compensation issue during playback 10.4.1

Hey,

There seems to be a bug in Logic X when using the latency compensation ALL setting when using UAD plugins (& maybe others too!).

During playback, with latency compensation set to audio software instrument tracks, Logic plays in-sync when loaded up with UAD plugins on individual channels and just the mix bus.

When I change delay compensation to ALL, the tracks go out of time with each other, esp when there are several plugins running at once.

If I leave delay comp set to audio software tracks, there is less sync issues that setting it to ALL, even with UAD plugins enabled on all busses!

I have run though all forums, reinstalled everything, del preferences, spoken at length to UAD support and almost had a minor mental breakdown!! From all this, it seems to be a Logic X issue.

Is anyone else experiencing this, or can help resolve the issue?

Cheers,

Tom

What's your I/O Buffer Size setting in Prefs > Audio > Devices? Normally, reducing the buffer size helps with reducing latency. Also, check out this manual section on latency: https://help.apple.com/logicpro/mac/10.4/#/lgcpe11997ba

It also depends on the project. It can be trial and error, but as you said, it works best when compensation is turned on for audio tracks. So, perhaps, that's how it should work with your setup?

"audio and software instrument tracks" Used to be Logic's default setting, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Not sure why Apple decided to switch to ALL as the default, Mixing UAD plugins with virtual instruments and native DSP effects has always been problematic. I have a UAD PCIe card in my older MacPro so I know what you're up against. Previously "audio and software instrument" Tracks was used for all tracking. Final mix was set to ALL. Which I never did.

Yes, except that Logic should read the offset latency correctly. I'm pretty sure the problem centers on Aux channels not being fully compensated, at least not the same as Inserts.

I first thought that the UAD plugins weren't reporting the correct look-ahead latency to the system but this problem doesn't happen when using other DAW systems, Cubase lines everything up correctly.

Thanks JotaGi,

Yes, I have reduced the buffer O/I down to 32 and buffer size to small.... Its still causing problems.

Interesting reading that logic speeds up channel strips with latency induced from plugins, and slows down all other tracks when latency in introduced on aux channels. I think the latter is causing problems here, possibly because these plugins are processing beasts, and add a lot more latency than regular ones.

Cheers Tom
