Preventing the Dock from Remaining Visible in Fullscreen Applications

Has anyone found a better way to do this in High Sierra?

When the Dock is set to the bottom of the screen and I use a fullscreen application, it often stays visible instead of automatically hiding.

I added the following AppleScript in the Script Editor, which doesn't use killall Dock and therefore doesn't re-open minimised applications:

tell application "System Events"

tell dock preferences

set properties to {screen edge:left}

set properties to {screen edge:bottom}

end tell

end tell

Then saved it as an application and added it to the Dock. Sorted!

I wasn't saying you were faking. What I am saying is if your Dock is not showing/hiding while in Full Screen your Mac in particular is not behaving correctly. You shouldn't need a workaround, it should be fixed. See if it does the same thing while in Safe Mode or if you log in to a new user account.

Try changing the location of the Dock, right or left side an test. Move the Dock back to the bottom and test.

Could be a corrupt plist.

From Finder>Go>Go To Folder , copy an paste:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist

move this plist to the desktop (to delete later or return if no change) and either restart your Mac or from terminal copy and paste:

killall Dock

The plist will rebuild to default.

if no change you can run the http://etrecheck.com to see if there is something interfering, like antivirus, Cleaners, etc that could be corrupting.

Ah, I should have been more specific -- this is a Dock where Automatically hide and show the Dock is unchecked.

Switching from a Desktop to a full-screen app, the Dock would usually hide itself, and show itself again when switching back to the Desktop. The behaviour I'm describing is that, in this scenario, the Dock does not hide itself.

The next time it happens I'll drop a screenshot 🙂

Hi, yes that's certainly possible, but not what was happening in my screenshot. In fact, since I have Magnification enabled in Dock Preferences, what I actually see in that scenario is this:
