Random Crash When Streaming Video

My Macbook sporadically crashes or freezes when i am streaming media. Completely random. Sometimes once a month, sometimes 5 times a day. Usually when watching Youtube, or viewing media that is operated by flash. Has done this since i bought the Macbook in 2015, but becoming more frequent as of late. I think it may be heat related, but i don't really have evidence to support that.

I have been in contact with apple. I have reinstalled OS High Sierra. Reset NVRAM. Reset SMC. All of those resets seem to work temporarily. I use Chrome and Safari as browsers.

Any ideas on what may be going on? I have attached a pic of the screen when it seizes up. Thank you! User uploaded file

What does apple say about this? Is it under applecare, extended warranty.

The picture suggests to me that the machine has a problem with the video chip. Sometimes a chip will loosen with heat.

When the problem occurs, Try a safe boot.

Shutdown your machine. Hold down the shift key. Poweron. The boot up will take longer than normal because the filesystem on the startup drive is being checked and repaired as needed. All about safe mode including what features and apps safe boot leaves out.

Is that two pictures in your original post? I thought the upper half of the screen was good while the lower half was bad 😝 me. Assuming whole screen is distorted, this gives a strong impression that it is the video chip. Apple would replace the logic board to fix the problem. They may repair the board in the in a depot.

You could get a laptop cooler. I have one for my laptop. Doesn't keep my laptop as cool as I would wish.

Apple says that my warranty is up. The Geek Squad guy at Best Buy said Apple Care isn't worth it.... I wish i had it now! Thank you for your input, rccharles! I think you are on to something! I always thought it was the graphics card heating up or something malfunctioning with flash. I have installed and reinstalled so many times i feel it has to be hardware. I will try safe mode boot when it crashes again. Thanks Again!
