Disk format scheme

I’m formatting a new SSD for my iMac. Disk Utility asks for Name, Format, and Scheme. Which Scheme do I choose?

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

I am always using "GUID Partition Map" for the Scheme.

(Disk Utility for macOS Sierra: Partition a physical disk using Disk Utility)

  • GUID Partition Map: Used for all Intel-based Mac computers.
  • Master Boot Record: Used for Windows partitions that will be formatted as MS-DOS (FAT) or ExFAT.
  • Apple Partition Map: Used for compatibility with older PowerPC-based Mac computers.
