Did a factory reset, took 6 hours to install, black screen.

Hello. I bought a used 2017 13 inch macbook pro, I tried formatting it and waited 6 hours for it to install macOS high Sierra just to get a black screenat the end, when I boot into recovery and try to wipe the disk again, I get all these volumes i don't understand. Btw i chose afps encrypted the first time. Can you help please?

Also recovery takes 20 minutes to load!

You need to format it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The High Sierra installer has problems with APFS drives.

It will convert the drive to APFS during the install, but it seems to choke on an already formatted APFS drive.

I didn't look at that. Looks quite odd.

Does it have two SSD's?


What does it show if you select APPLE SSD?


Also, go to Utilities menu and select Terminal.

In the Terminal, type these commands and post the results.

diskutil list

diskutil ap list

Also, are you booting into Internet Recovery or regular Recovery? Internet loads from Apple's servers, so it can be slow to boot.
