Google replaces Favorites in Safari new tab

This is weird. Safari prefs are set for a new tab to come up with Favorites. Bringing up a new tab shows Favorites for about 2 seconds and then the vanilla Google search page replaces it. Any advice?

Cheers

Go to Safari Preferences/Extensions and turn all extensions off. Test. If okay, turn the extensions on one by one until you figure out what extension is causing the problem.

Thanks - I'll give that a try too.

As an update, I downloaded and ran malwarebytes, which appears to have resolved the obvious symptoms: redirects to Google as well as misdirects from Safari to - in one example - the Downloads folder on disk. (I.e., a Desktop level window would come up instead of the usual Downloads folder.)

Now I'm hoping that there wasn't some sniffer implanted in Safari to grab logins and passwords.
