Screenshots are stuck on desktop until MacBook Pro is restarted.

When I create a screenshot on my MacBook Pro (early 2015 13-inch, ver. 10.13.6 and prior versions over last two years), the screenshot image in any size (icon or larger after clicked on) remains on my screen, showing through all apps. If I drag the icon to Trash, the image remains. The only way to be rid of the image is through restarting the MacBook.

How do I stop this from occuring?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch,Early 2015), OS X El Capitan (10.11)

To trouble shoot further you can:

Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen as certain system caches, dynamic loader cache etc get cleared and

rebuilt. This test will tell you if third party interference; extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

Test issue in another user (or guest user) account https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204443

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.
