Can I create a shortcut from Photos to Photoshop?

If I want to edit a photo in Photos with Photoshop, there is no direct way, I have to choose "Edit with other", then choose the Adobe folder and the Photoshop CS6 application. From Aperture I could set the external app I wanted to use, but in Photos I am stuck with this slower way. A serious photographer don't edit with Preview, ColorSync or Grab. Is there a way I can make my Mac go directly to Photoshop? I am hoping Photos 4 will improve this as well as put the file number under each thumbnail. It has been a real disappointment to move from Aperture to Photos.

MacBook Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13.6), Also AppleTV

Read this user tip: External Editors in Photos Are Here

This is what it can do with Photos 3.0 (and 4.0):

If animation doesn't start Control (right) - click on the image above and select Show in New Window to see animation.

So with the 99¢ extension you can use any image editor located in the Applications folder.

The "Image > Edit with" menu is showing all photo editors, that are fully compatiblewith Photos, so Photos can recognise them as an editor. I am seeing all editors sthere, that I am frequently using. For Photoshop CS6 we would need an update by Adobe to make it fully compatible with Photos.

macOS 10.14 Mojave with Photos 4.0 is supposed to be coming "this fall". (macOS - Mojave Preview - Apple) It will not be long, until we will know for sure, which improvements for Photos it has to offer 🙂

When I shoot raw with my Sony camera I can choose to edit in raw, but that option does not show up when shooting raw with my Canon. Isn't Photos compatible with Canon raw?

The RAW support in Photos is embedded in MacOS X and specific for each camera model. Photos 3 on High Sierra supports the following camera models - many High end Canon Cameras are supported: Digital camera RAW formats supported by iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra - Apple Support

When you are shooting RAW-JPEG pairs, Photos is stacking them as one photo and you will by default see the JPEG of the pair as the Master. You can switch to the RAW file as the master in Edit mode. While in Edit mode use the command "Image > Use RAW as Original".

Then Photos will show an "R" as a badge overlay instead of the "J".

When you are using "Image > Edit with", a RAW file will be passed to the external editor as a TIFF, if it not has been edited and as a JPEG, if adjustments have been applied.

I am using the External Editor extension instead. It allows me to send the RAW file instead of the TIFF.

Thanks for your reply. What I was hoping is that I could create a shortcut by using keys to move me directly to Photoshop CS6. It works ok to do it by clicking edit with "other" and then open the Photoshop folder and then the final third action to click on the CS6 application which opens the photo in Photoshop. I do have to store the edited version as a jpeg copy in a temporary folder, and then import it back into Photos, but I did have to do the same when using Aperture. I don't suppose there is a way of moving the edited jpeg version into my Photos library? A third question is editing in raw. In Aperture I got both the raw and jpeg showing up in the browser. That does not happen with Photos. When I shoot raw with my Sony camera I can choose to edit in raw, but that option does not show up when shooting raw with my Canon. Isn't Photos compatible with Canon raw?
