How to turn off two factor authentication?
You can’t.
(Sorry for the “harsh-sounding” reality)
What makes you think that you need to do so?
So … since you’re going to have to “live with it” …
Recommend that you carefully review and thoroughly digest the two fairly important and informative articles linked below.
Pay particularly close attention to thoughtfully selecting and setting up Trusted Numbers … these become critical when you need to regain access to your account (e.g. lost, damaged, or stolen device).
Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support

Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication - Apple Support
Wasting your time here I’m afraid nobody can help with this obtrusive 2FA and mediations on here just says basically leave it alone I’m sick of Apple and its attitude to customer service as they won’t help either been and tried everything to get this turned off and they flat refuse to help either with turning off or fixing issues so my next move is now going to be uk trading standards and our rights as a consumer especially on the distance selling regulations
This is beyond awful. This got turned on automatically, without my permission, kicked all of my devices out of my iCloud account, and now sends me in circles to try to get them authenticated. Over an hour later, I’ve got ONE device signed in... out of FIVE.
This is enough of an issue that I’m SERIOUSLY looking at moving away from Apple products!

You should always chose the products that best meets your needs. No one here has any vested interest in what that is.
Just an FYI... you are screaming into the wind. Many new features like Heath data and smart home products require a second level of security for protection. And Apple does not turn it on if you previous didn’t have 2fa. If it’s taken 75 pages for you to understand and over 2 years of the post being active... I feel sorry for you. No longer will I waste me time.
Not asking for better cell service just the ability to control my own security when their systems fail so again I like the idea of 2FA but it needs to work for everyone and not fail constantly and more importantly Apple need to address the thousands of complaints which currently are on the net with no customer complaints department this will never happen they need to realise they are destroying an otherwise excellent device and their attitude of we don’t care will eventually seriously damage the brand as with all technology there will always be teething issues but if they ignore the problems they are not going to go away. And as with all companies they are only as good as their customer base
Yes I agree it probably was turned on by the user after being prompted to add something he or she had no understanding off and I find it really unacceptable that you are not sent a reminder before the last chance to disable this system and although 2FA is a good idea it just doesn’t work and Apple won’t fix it because as far as they are concerned it isn’t broken and with no complaints department it will never be fixed
I’m sure for you I works fine but for the many of us that it doesn’t work for it’s an unnecessary time consuming inconvenience
I truly wish it did work for me but since reporting it multiple times to Apple and countless customer support calls the problems are still very much there I have said it over and over again to the point that the mediators here now hate me but it still doesn’t solve the problem I have asked here for help but no useful solutions have been found For the last time I’m not against Apple or 2FA I just want it to work as it should and not asking me to sign in every time it looses a connection Don’t have issues like this with android google or even
Microsoft so why can’t Apple solve the problem?? The answer is simple no complaints department feedback that’s ignored forum posts deleted so basically Apple don’t care you paid your money now live with it or don’t have an Apple account which in its self would render any Apple device an overpriced door stop and as for the mediators how about escalating the many issues found here and everywhere else so a resolution can be found but as I keep being told Apple don’t read any of this and it seems there is absolutely no way of making Apple listen which truly means it will never be fixed so I’m now telling my company and all of our subsidiary companies to dump Apple all together as what use is a company so arrogant as to having no way to complain about an issue that effectively makes the system unusable

I'm not sure why you're responding to me with this. I'm well aware of how 2FA works. I'm also aware that it is required for certain features. I am also aware that it doesn't get turned on by Apple, only the user. I've known that since it was first released, before this thread was created. I use 2FA, understand how it works and have no issues with it. I'm not sure why you feel sorry for me.
with no customer complaints department this will never happen
What reaction would you expect a customer complaint department to have? What could they say to you to calm you down?
their attitude of we don’t care
I highly doubt this is their true attitude. You are conflating silence with indifference.
If your desired customer complaint department said to the masses... "Apple is aware of some user issues with 2FA and our engineers are actively working on solutions for these issues. We appreciate your patience as we do this."
Would that change anything for you?
And to keep in compliance with the OP, if Apple said "Apple is aware that some users are wanting a way to turn off 2FA after the 14 day period we provide. Apple is committed to providing the most secure mobile device platform to our user base. and as part of that commitment, we believe our 2FA technology is the best way to deliver that security. We believe that 14 days is adequate for our customers to use the 2FA technology and make their choice about keeping it after that 14 days. "
Would that change anything for you? Would knowing that they are aware of your disagreement change anything? To suggest or advocate every company change their core values and beliefs because a small number of customers disagree is absurd.
NOTE: I am not an Apple employee and I am NOT speaking for Apple here. The passages in italics above are MY thoughts and do not represent Apple in any way.
What I struggle with is the assertion that is is cumbersome and time consuming. I, and literally tens of millions of other users do not. I see the minor 5 second annoyance as worth it to not allow my account to be compromised.
You have still not answered my question getting a code on the device itself if connectivity is an issue. Did that work for you?
In answer to your question yes I can get a code on my devices but every time any of my devices loose internet connection I’m expected to sign in again and again.
the issue is not that I can’t get a code it’s about how often I need to use it.
As for calming me down I’m not angry I’m frustrated at no Apple help and disappointed that the system has not been fixed and it would appear that it never will be fixed it seems that Apple have decided we are going to have this and that’s that which in the case of it working well would be great but when it doesn’t work is a very poor attitude. With the best intentions they are not going to fix a problem that they won’t acknowledge even exists so yes I think it’s very poor that there is no way to escalate a serious system service fault.
so again if you know of a solution the. Let’s hear it please why is it only Apple 2FA that I’m having problems with why does it not remember my own device as trusted after network disconnection and why are we not able to turn it off when it doesn’t work. Been with Apple for years with the same Apple ID never had any problems whatsoever until 2FA so it’s not me it’s not the devices it’s the system so please stop sticking up for Apple when you don’t know how badly this effects my use and overall user experience.
No company is above complaints or service issues and it’s not only about the fact that it doesn’t work it’s also the fact there is no way to officially complain or get any proper help
And also in terms of actual security what is the point of sending a code to the same device you’re signing in on surely this defeats any and all security advantages or is this not supposed to happen meaning yet another failure the system doesn’t work properly and it’s a total waste of time
Im really not sure if replying to your post directly is appropriate or not, but I don’t believe that the request for additional levels or avenues of Apple Service or Support is unreasonable. Senior Advisors wear many hats in both Support and ITunes. Then there’s engineering and Legal. I would think it would make it easier for both the user and Apple to add more specific areas of support. I also would not mistake an Apple employee of someone who approached an issue in this manner. You had an important message but for me it was almost lost in your language. It’s not what you say it’s how you say it, right? Others are entitled to their thoughts and opinions. 2FA is far from perfect. Apple compromise is highly unlikely but not impossible, even with it. I, like you make the choice to use it but it should be a choice if it’s interfering with a user’s experience.
but I don’t believe that the request for additional levels or avenues of Apple Service or Support is unreasonable
Never said that.
Reality is, this is not the place to achieve those goals. Why is this most basic concept so hard to grasp?
Apple does NOT directly provide support here. They clearly state that in the terms everyone agreed to.
"Apple may respond to questions but does not formally provide technical support on the Site."
https://support.apple.com/contact is THE method for obtaining support. If Apple support fails to meet your needs, this community does not become the place to complain.
Others are entitled to their thoughts and opinions
Absolutely. But not their own facts.
Apple has explicitly stated they don't want opinions and thoughts expressed here. Not my rule.
"Post constructive comments and questions. Unless otherwise noted, your Submission should either be a technical support question or a technical support answer. Constructive feedback about product features is also welcome."
This 76 page discussion has moved away from being technical.
Very well put together and informative. I don’t agree at all. I believe technical support is still being offered. Along with some additional information. I think we’re both guilty of that. You had very strong personal stances. Good night and thank you. I did learn things.

There's the thing.
It is moot if any of us agree or disagree with Apple's stance. I do not like this phrase myself, but "it is what it is" Apple seems to want this to be a logical community not an emotional one.
Everyone complains about the weather, but nobody does anything about it.
Those who feel strongly can exercise their right and change platforms and move away from Apple. There are alternatives.
Okay, I hear you. This is just going to funny but I have you in another email I just received. I may have reacted emotionally, it’s true. Words like “absurd” can have that reaction. I think we’re actually making the same point. Your posts were full of opinions. Thinly veiled by facts and quotes. Again, being new here, I learned a lot but unfortunately took my attention away from the issue at hand.
