[Homepod] Stereo pairing doesn't work anymore with iOs 12

Hello,

I have just upgraded my 2 HomePods to iOS 12, but now process to set-up stereo pairing doesn't work anymore.

HomePod Stereo was working fine with IOS 11.4.

I have done factory resets, tried several combinations to have this stereo set-up, with iPhone, iPad, etc. but iTunes never not able to detect my stereo pairing.

Has anyone encountered the same problem following iOS 12 homePod firmware update ?

Thank you for your advices,

Kind regards,
Nicolas

Hi kirafrommelbourne,

Thank you very much for this update. I see that Apple pushed an update to Apple TV this week, maybe this is what solved the pairing process for you.

Here, I am still waiting for Apple support to come back to me with some updates. As of now, Apple has not confirmed me that a patch was in the work. I am still in 11.4, with iOS 12 blocked.

I am hoping for an update next Monday. If not, I will contact them again.

The Apple Home Pod is a complete and utter FAILURE and that is laid directly on Cook.

Every time I try to use it to listen to music during my workout I have to spend more time screwing around with it than I have time to work out. It's a failure. I have two and I am just

I’m in the same situation. One month+ already and still no patch just yet.

P.S. At least I’ve noticed that I can have them work in pair mode if I start playing whatever I want to listen on my iPhone and then after that to air playing it to my paired homepods in which case pair mode is working just fine, apparently. That seems to be the only way around the issue until finally Apple will push a new firmware update and have this pitty issue fixed once and for all.

Hi kosmo 13, thank you for your message.

I have the very same problem on my side. Not resolved at all, I went back to 11.4, blocked iOS 12 update, and it is working very well.

Other members of the Macrumors forum are also confirming the pairing problem with iOS 12, through a tread that I have started.

No feedback from Apple one my side. Still expecting a fix, hopefully soon.

Please other members of the community, let us know your feedbacks following your HomePod upgrade. Thank you !

It’s funny how few days after detailing the problem with my homepods I can happily and officially state that since yesterday, 10/23/2018 they miraculously start working again.

P.S. If you have a pairing issue too with your homepods make sure to leave a detailed comment with what you’re experiencing in this thread because apparently Apple can remotely fix them. I have no other logical explanation since mines didn’t worked ever since the new IOS 12.0 and now they do. Don’t know how, don’t know who but thank you.

In another discussion I reported that my Homepods stopped playing in stereo when playing music via Siri - that is, the second Homepod did not light up and start playing music. I managed to get them working again by pausing the first one, tapping the top of the second to wake it and start playing music, pausing it and starting the first one again. Suddenly stereo was back! This flukey behaviour might explain your success.

However it doesn't fix the problem raised in this discussion about not being able to set up a stereo pair.

One tip I found in another discussion is to make sure the Homepods are on the same wifi band. This might mean temporarily disabling one of the bands (5gHz?) of the router to see if it fixes the problem.
