iMessage goes to wrong recipient

Hi, I updated to ios12 and now the messages that I’m addressing to my daughter go to my husband instead. Nothing has changed other than the update. It doesn’t matter how I input her name or number, the instant I hit send it shows my husband’s name & sends to him. I’ve restarted it several times and am starching my head on this one. Thanks for your help.

Apple did take notice. This was fixed in iOS 12.1.

About iOS 12 Updates - Apple Support

Resolves an issue that caused messages to be merged into one thread when two users were signed in with the same Apple ID on multiple iPhones

Did you make sure that everyone is udpated to iOS 12.1 and if necessary delete the infected threads? Restart your phones as well. If that doesn’t help, recreate the contacts for those involved.

I’ve now tried everything including deleting all my family members with whom this was occurring (3 of us) from contacts, deleting all message threads involving any of us, then adding the contacts again. Same issue.

It’s really hacking us off. Using WhatsApp now as our main *reliable* contact method.

Part of me thinks this is deliberate on the part of Apple to force everyone to have their own individual ID, so they can sell more apps and software without sharing between family members.

*For goodness sake Apple, fix this!!!*

I've been having problems with Messages for some time. I'll be on a group text with my sister and nieces and my sister's reply will suddenly come in on separate conversation. We do not have linked accounts. Then this weekend a friend texted me and I noticed it had her photo but her husband's name. I replied and there was a pause. Then she replied and asked why am I answering on her husband's account, that my reply came in on his phone. From then on all my replies went to his phone and were green since he is not on an iPhone. Prior to this they were all blue as she has an iPhone. While we were trying to figure this out, her photo on my phone dissolved into his photo. Totally bizarre.

The thing is I was using Messages on my Mac desktop when this last incident occurred, not my iPhone. A few days after, the conversation again became labeled with the wife's name and her photo, and the part of the conversation that went to her husband's phone disappeared altogether. However on my iPhone her name and photo were restored as well, but the texts to the husband were removed and separated into a conversation under his name and photo. On my iPad the husband's conversation is separated as on my iPhone, but the conversation to the wife after this incident is separated into a separate conversation from the original. So all three of my devices handled it differently. Then again last night I got a text from my sister that made no sense. Turns out it was a reply to a group conversation with her daughters. This is not only annoying...it's scary! How do we know where our texts are going?

Read your message regarding moving your photos....I have the amazon prime photo app. love it, any picture I take on any of my apple devices is automatically saved to this app and I can retrieve them from any device or pc. It also allows you to share photos with anyone you invite. And they can do the same. You can put whatever photos you want to share in a certain folder so they don’t get all of yours if you don’t want them too. Highly recommend

I’m still having this issue on 12.1.2. It started a few months back and is driving me mad. I send a message to my mums phone number and it sends to their iPad. Sometimes it’s the other way around. The unpredictability of where the message will go just makes it worse.

My mums contact details on my iPhone only contains her phone number (no email address attached at all). The iPad and iPhone both use their iCloud address. My mums phone is set up to only send/receive iMessages from her phone number and the iPad is set to only send/receive iMessages from their Apple ID email address.

FaceTime works fine still - as in I can choose which device to call and it actually calls that device. The devices/accounts have been set up this way for years with no issues until iOS 12.

Ive even tried just typing the actual phone number number in the address box and sending a message that way but it’s still going to the iPad. When I open messages sent to to me from them, all messages are merged. It will initially show my mum as the contact in the top bar, but when I scroll so far up, the contact name changes to the iPad name. Deleting the message thread and seems to work temporarily, but the issue constantly comes back.

All devices invloved are using iOS 12.1.2

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks.

You appear to have not been following the thread or understood the issue.

Those of us who are or have run into this issue did not have all of the other numbers/email addresses enabled on the various devices that share the account, and the contact from which the errant message receipts are not part of the shared accounts.

So, while the advice would be correct in other circumstances, I'm afraid it doesn't provide much aide in this case.

Same issue but different reason.

hubbie and I just returned to Canada after a trip to Australia where we each had Australian numbers on our holiday.

Now I try to message hubbie on his Canadian number but glitches and sends to his temporary (and now cancelled) Australian number. Really don’t want to delete the thread as there are years of memories in the texts.

have tried new update (12.1.4) didn’t fix it, have tried turning iMessage on and off.

cant change apple IDs as the Australian sim Doesn’t work anymore .

ideas???
