The new Infographic faces (new to Watch 4) do not offer either Mail or Messages as configurable complications. Which seems very odd. Unless anyone else has discovered otherwise. Hopefully they will update this shortly - so for now, reverting to old watch face set-up.

Hugely disappointing! Messages has to be the most widely used complication. We are being forced to use a watch face available on all models which is making the experience not feel remotely new or fresh. Fingers crossed Apple realized this was a blunder and fixes it in the next OS update. I love the infograph watch face but I won't use it without messages there.

Like so many here, I used the Messages complication extensively. It isn't so much that pushing it opened the Messages app; the important thing for me was being able to look at the Watch face and tell 1) whether there were any messages waiting for me and 2) if so, how many (by putting the number inside the Messages complication bubble). I used this every single day. Yes, I'm using the Infograph on my Series 4 just because it looks so darn nice, but I sure as heck do miss the Messages (and Mail) comps. I've sent feedback to Apple stating my feelings...

One other addition to this thread... I upgraded from series 2 to 4 and used old infographic with phone and message complications. the new info graphic face not only didn’t have message and mail but it doesn’t have simple phone complication. Itsgot complications for all your favorites?!!! Like I’m going to call one favorite exclusively?!?? Not only do I want/need message complication but a generic phone too!!’ Hopefully this will be fixed. Meaanwhile I’ve got both old and new infographic faces active in the watch and swipe between them when I need old vs new features. Works for now. But hopefully this won’t be a permanent problem!!

Totally agree. Not having mail and messages complications is just one of the worst oversights I have ever seen from Apple. This needs to be fixed ASAP. They should have every single complication available to the watch face. Period. Every app and any complication should be an option to use for any watch face. Absolutely terrible Apple. Please fix this immediately

I have discovered that on my new series 4 with Infograph (I have not tried any other face) not all my email notifications come through when scrolling down fro the top of the watch screen. I get sms, WhatsApp, etc but limited email. However when I go to mail after going to app in dock all my emails are there. My previous series watch did not have this issue. Am I missing something in a setting etc or is this new in the latest version OS??

I hadn't realised that the new Infographic Modular face is even further restricted (in terms of available complications to display) than the Infographic face. To me this seems to suggest that they simply haven't yet designed how these apps will work within these two different formats - which is good news, in that they presumably will become available in due course.

However it still seems unlike Apple (as said above) to launch Watch 4 with these faces as a key selling point before some of the more obvious complications are fully developed for them...

I have noticed that it's not just that the infographic Watch face is missing Apple's native messages, email, and phone apps. Additionally, certain complications on the infographic screen do NOT include data that IS included on other Watch faces. For example, the app Pedometer++ includes the actual number of steps and miles you've walked during the day on all Watch face complications BUT the infographic Watch face. On the IG Watch face, Pedometer++ only shows an icon with a progress ring. Far less helpful and far less INFOrmation. The highly acclaimed (and my personal favorite) fitness app, WorkOutDoors, has a complication for every Watch face but the Infographic Watch face. Both Apple and developers are apparently lagging in getting the infographic screen up to date...making it, at this time, a big letdown. To be honest, I wish Apple would just offer a Watch Face with, say, spaces for 8 complications...3 on the bottom row, 3 on the middle row, and 2 plus the time on the top row. And no need to tell me this is not the place to post suggestions for Apple as they don't read these posts. I know that. I have already sent the 8 complication suggestion to Apple's feedback site and I suggest if others would like this type of Watch face to let Apple know too. Cheers.

Mr Luigi - that's an interesting point. So it's not just about the absence of some complications from these new faces, it's also the absence of usefully displayed data from some of those that are available. Which, again, points to Watch 4 having been launched before the complications for these faces were fully thought through...

In the case of third party apps, maybe the developers just weren't given a long enough lead time - but this surely can't have been the case for native apps such as Mail and Messages.

Branta_uk said...Having been on the other side as a programmer, it is also plausible that the complication developers had everything working until last minute changes were needed in the supporting Infograph faces. That's the kind of surprise which nobody wants with only a few days before release but it happens.

Hi Branta_uk! There may be some truth to that. I mentioned in my original comment that the fitness app WorkOutDoors does not have a working complication for the Infograph faces. That really surprised me because the developer of WookOutDoors has consistently impressed me with his programming expertise and the dedication he has shown to keeping his app, in no uncertain terms, a work of art. It's hard to imagine HE dropped the ball on this one.
