Mixed up iMessage recipients

It doesn't matter which one of us (my wife or I) our son iMessages it goes to whichever one of us sent a message to him most recently!

My wife and I have always had the same iCloud account so that all our photos combine but i've set up my wife separately since the new iOS in the hope that it would fix this new bigger problem.

Seems enough people have this problem so hopefully the 'bug' will be rectified soon or we'll be given the work around! For the time being we're using WhatsApp...

I'd also love to be able to combine our photos into the one main stream without having to drag them all into a family album manually too.

iPhone X, iOS 12

not helpful at all but thanks for trying.

in fact i used the chat and your colleague was v helpful and solved the problem without being at all patronising

i have a degree in engineering and about 2 dozen apple products, this issue isn't complicated or confusing but due to a bug whereby the fix is to restart iMessage by turning it off, rebooting and then turn on again

I'm not trying to get into an argument.

I want to follow Apple's recommendations.

Does anyone have a link to Apple's recommendations/cautionary statements about sharing Apple IDs across multiple devices?

Apple does NOT recommend against sharing Apple IDs across multiple devices. In fact, it's encouraged provided that all devices are associated with the same human. Apple advises NOT to share Apple IDs across multiple humans.

Quite simply, one ID = one human.

Making the same point again and again doesn't make it the answer to the question here.

Arguing with you in return would seem to achieve nothing either.

Sometimes this board looks like a group of argumentative teenagers trying to slam some big organisation while also trying to demonstrate how clever they are. I CHATTED WITH APPLE AND THEY SOLVED THE PROBLEM AS PER MY REPLY VERY EARLY IN THIS THREAD.

I have unique ID's as part of a family of four but iMessage replies were going to one person instead of the intended person.

I webchatted with Apple who solved it and I see no evidence in this chain that others are talking to Apple before deciding who is evil, or trying to screw with their lives.

On a related note can someone please tell me how to opt out of the several email alerts I get each day when someone puts some other nonsense on this thread ;-)

Why are you so angry, KiltedTim? It is a bug. It started mixing up messages out of the blue without me changing anything. The fix as mentioned from someone is to delete the conversations with those that are getting mixed up. Don’t insist , especially if you are wrong.

He's not angry and he's not wrong. He's stating facts. It is your right to use your iPhone in whatever manner you wish but don't expect it to function properly when you ignore Apple's instructions.
