Buzzing Earpiece iPhone Xs

When my iPhone Xs is at max volume during phone calls I often hear a high pitched “buzzing” or “crackling” sound coming from the earpiece when the person on the other end of the call is talking.

Has anyone else been experiencing this problem?

Just to update, I brought my phone in to the Apple Store with this issue and they swapped it out for a new one but the new one is having the exact same problem.

I decided to test other iPhone Xs models that were in store and all of them had the exact same issue from the earpiece/receiver when playing audio at high volumes (especially things like piano music).

I'm convinced this represents a hardware problem and will be returning the phone this week. I love everything else about the phone, but unfortunately, I need it to function well as a phone.

Hi, I am from Slovakia and as described above, suffering rhe same problem with xs. I tried another xs and the sound was crystal clear. Seems to be there is exact problem with hardware in some phones (and diagnostics is ok). But as they do not want to exchange it, i have nothing to do...just to disable up speaker. Waiting that Apple will issue statement regarding this problem and to command its original service centers to change these phones. The problem occurs volume 50 and above...cannot watch most videos, listen to music, play games even watch some of recordings

Sorry to hear that. I have a call scheduled with then today an hour from now, since the restore did not resolve the issue. Let's see what they say. I am going to press for a replacement. Are you aware if they can authorize a replacement on call? Why should I run around to service centers since they gave me a bad device? This is unfair.

I am interested to hear what they say. However, when reading all the replies here I am very skeptical that a replacement will ceompleteley solve the issue. Many people already have replaced their phones several times and it still existis. I still hope it is a software issue and will be fixed in near future.

Since I have not ordered Apple care in the beginning, they did not offer me a immediate replacement so far. Next Apple store is too far away to just walk by and pick up a new phone.

I have just had contact with Apple Support to get a status on my support case.

Their engineers are working on this issue with high pressure. The support assumes that the problem is related to the Software. They have asked me to wait until the next software update. Hopefully it will be resolved with the update 12.1.1...

Ok I just got off the call and they have asked me to take it to the store. They think it may be a hardware issue, which I doubt. I wonder why they are giving different responses to different people? They will escalate my issue depending on what happens at the store tomorrow. Honestly frustrated.

Has your case been escalated tobi? Who's handling it and why have they not told me to wait for the update?

Can you all please try ringtones summit and piano riff? It is the clearest demonstration of my. Faulty earpiece spieker. The sound from top spieker is like if the speaker is totally finished(cracklineg, resonating) after 50 percent of volume. I dont trust it is software and i am very anbry that apple rrefuses to repair it under warranty. 1400 eur phone!

I just tried both those ring tones Summit and piano riff and both sound perfect on my phone even at 100 percent volume..my problem is only happening during phone calls...tobi, have you tried these ring tones? Anyone else? And has someone updated to ios 12.1.1 beta? Does it solve the issue? The 3rd beta was the last one released.. There should have been a 4th beta by now but it has been delayed..I am taking that as a good sign..it may mean that Apple is working on bundling a fix for our issue with 12.1.1..What do you guys think?

I returned my first one and currently looking to see if I should give it another shot. My old iPhone 7 is serving me well, but I waited for this upgrade for such a long time! It seems that every XS and XS max has the same issue, but some people are just insensitive to this crackling sound or they don't use the speaker at all but instead use bluetooth or speaker phone.

Definitely not each has the same issue. There are some batches with the issue, not all. I tried some xs,s in the shop and they were ok. I think that people here have different problems. Those who have only with calls and those with defected speaker (piano riff- no way that only sensitive people hear noise as you can hear it on 1 meter like device is blow off).
